On the slopes of Hochgerach, Dünserberg combines a high-altitude setting with mountain views and a clearly identified Walser history. These themes offer different points of reference when choosing how to spend your stay: landscape and mountain biking sit alongside chapels and settlement history. The Gerachhaus also provides a specific accommodation option.
Mountain Views and Activity
Today’s municipal area lies between 850 and 1,850 metres above sea level. The Gerachhaus is at 1,560 metres; from there, views extend from the Silvretta massif across the Rätikon to the Säntis. These figures describe two different scales: Dünserberg’s elevation range and a specific location in this mountain landscape. To get your bearings, you can therefore distinguish between the village’s altitude range and the Gerachhaus’s panorama from a precisely identified location.
The view from Dünserberg focuses on the Rätikon and its snow-covered peaks. By comparison, the view from the Gerachhaus also takes in the Silvretta massif and the Säntis. This places a perspective more focused on the Rätikon alongside a broader panorama of named landmarks.
A well-developed mountain biking trail network adds a distinct activity focus to the landscape. If you are considering Dünserberg in terms of your interests, two different aspects of the village stand out: mountain views and mountain biking. You can consider which of these themes you would like to make a greater part of your stay.
Activity and Seasonal Connections
During the summer months, the “Hiking and Swimming Bus” ran to the Nenzing swimming pool and the “Älpele” alpine pasture at Dünserberg. If you would like to take this connection into account when planning, check the current timetable in advance.
Walser History and Chapels
The area of today’s municipality was settled around 1300 by Walsers from the Swiss canton of Valais. This connects the village with a clearly identified region of origin and an approximate timeframe. Compared with the later chapel dates of 1886 and 1933, this period in the village’s history came considerably earlier.
The Chapel of St. Benedict was built in 1886 by the residents of Bischa and has a licence to celebrate Mass. The Chapel of St. Wolfgang was renovated in June 1933. Construction and renovation are different historical events, placing the chapels at different points in time.
The settlement around 1300 relates to the area of today’s municipality; the construction and renovation dates, in contrast, each refer to a single chapel. This offers a historical perspective ranging from the village’s origins to two specific events involving its chapels.
Accommodation and Dining
The Gerachhaus offers rooms and spacious dormitory-style mattress accommodation. These are two named types of overnight stay to choose from. Advance booking is required; bear this in mind if you are planning to stay at the house.
The Henslerstüble offers a small selection of popular dishes as well as daily recommendations. This gives you two points of reference when choosing a meal: popular dishes and a recommendation for that particular day.
