The Langenegg Reading Trail passes three “word places”: book boxes filled with books at peaceful spots invite you to browse. The trail is suitable for strollers. Langenegg also has nature trails leading into the Nord nature reserve and themed circular walks focusing on Kneipp teachings and religious sites. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether reading along the way, nature or cultural destinations should be your main focus.
Trails with Different Themes
The Reading Trail has a different focus from the Lausbubenweg, which features child-friendly activity stations: balancing blocks, a slackline and fir-cone throwing. The stations encourage balance, coordination and throwing. The trails therefore differ in what they focus on along the way—book spots for browsing or activity stations for children. The Langenegg Kneipp Trail, in turn, draws on the five pillars of Sebastian Kneipp’s teachings, bringing them to life along the circular route. When comparing these options, different themes and trail stations take centre stage.
Nature Reserve and Moorland
Two hikes start at the municipal office, but lead to destinations described in different ways. The Lieblingsweg Langenegg – North Loop hike leads into the Nord nature reserve. The Dragonfly Trail also starts at the municipal office, passes through the protected area and continues to the Bregenzerache; from the hamlet of Reute, it follows the path to the river. The destination is a useful point of difference when choosing between them: the nature reserve is the named destination for the North Loop, while the Dragonfly Trail also includes the Bregenzerache in its route. Another option is an easy walking or hiking trail that follows the Langenegg Energy Portals and eventually passes through the “Nord” nature reserve. The nature reserve is a well-preserved moorland landscape with extensive raised bog and fen areas. Langenegg is also a member of the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park.
Chapels, Church and Lime Trees
The Laudatio Trail is a spiritual circular walk connecting all the chapels in Langenegg with the parish church. Built in 1775 in honour of “Our Lady”, the parish church is considered one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in the Bregenzerwald. Its construction date and dedication give a visit to the church a historical context, while its Baroque classification describes its architectural character. The connection makes the parish church the shared focal point of the circular walk.
The Lindenweg passes two prominent lime trees. One stands in Unterlangenegg in the hamlet of Hälisbühl, and the other at Rotenberg, the highest point in the municipality. This trail focuses on two specific landscape landmarks in different locations. Unlike the Laudatio Trail, which connects religious sites, this route centres on the trees and their locations within the municipality. You can therefore choose between a spiritual circular walk linked to the parish church and a trail to prominent lime trees.
