Innerschwand Am Mondsee lies directly on Lake Mondsee. The lakeshore, signposted trails and traces of culture offer different ways to shape your stay: you can plan a day at the bathing area, choose a running route or a children’s hike, or explore chapels and monuments. The forest also offers a distinctive natural feature: in the Pichlwald nature reserve near Loibichl, there is a steep-slope yew and beech forest.

A lakeshore and trails with different highlights

Loibichl bathing area is a large bathing facility on the shore of Lake Mondsee. SUP BOX Loibichl is located at the public Loibichl bathing area in 5311 Innerschwand am Mondsee. In Innerschwand, boat and surfboard rentals are available. If boat or surfboard rental is important to your plans, check availability in advance.

The Sonnenrunde is a signposted running route through the municipality of Innerschwand am Mondsee. It passes the Wetterkreuz, which offers a magnificent view across the lake. The easy, varied children’s hike to the observation tower on the Kulmspitze offers a different highlight: the trail passes through open woodland, and from the tower the panoramic view extends across the Salzkammergut. The section of the VIA NOVA to Innerschwand and Loibichl offers magnificent views of Lake Mondsee and the Salzkammergut mountains. The trails therefore differ both in their focus and in their viewpoints: a running route and the Wetterkreuz, a children’s hike and the observation tower, or views of the lake and mountains.

A forest with a distinct tree structure

In the Pichlwald nature reserve near Loibichl, beech dominates the first tree layer. The second layer is made up of yew, with a mixture of whitebeam and rowan. The first tree layer forms the upper level of the forest stand, while the second lies beneath it. This means the forest can be described not only by the species mentioned, but also by its structure.

Churches, chapels and archaeological heritage

For those interested in culture, the range extends from sacred sites and their artworks to an archaeological monument by the lake. The Federal Monuments Authority’s list of monuments dated 23 June 2026 lists the filial church of St. Joseph, the Loibichl Homecoming Church, and the Konradsbrunnen Chapel as protected by decree. The lakeshore settlement of Mosswinkel on Lake Mondsee in Innerschwand is listed as an archaeological monument protected by official decision. The list is not legally binding.

The circular route “Places of Faith: Exploring Loibichl” leads to the Loibichl filial church and includes a visit inside. If you want to plan your church visit at a specific time, check in advance when it is suitable. Auhof Chapel is described as one of the wayside chapels on the pilgrimage route to Mondsee Abbey.

Specific details also set other chapels apart: Langmann Chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary; its altar painting depicts the Coronation of Mary. An inscription describes it as one of the oldest chapels in the area. The wayside shrine known as the Gluckinger “Chapel” was erected at its new location in 1987.
