Eggerding brings together sacred architectural history, sweeping views across the countryside and a range of leisure activities. The parish church and Hackledt Castle offer cultural and historical points of interest, while hills, a named hiking route and seasonal swimming invite you outdoors. There are also music events and sports. When planning, it is worth keeping seasonal activities and specific dates in mind.
Parish Church and Architectural History
Today’s Eggerding parish church was built in the 15th century. The nave and presbytery are about 22 metres long and around 10 metres wide together. These measurements refer to both areas combined and give the building a tangible architectural scale.
The architecture features a net vault and transverse ribs that hold together the church’s south walls. The construction period and design offer different perspectives on the same building: the church can be placed in its historical context, while the transverse ribs reveal a specific feature of its construction. For culturally minded visitors, both its history and its architecture are therefore central.
Hackledt Castle and Its History
Hackledt Castle was once a noble estate near Eggerding. Around 1390, the Hacköder family were first mentioned as lords of the castle. Exhibitions by various artists are also held at the castle. As the exhibition programme may change, it is a good idea to check the latest information before planning a visit around one.
Hackledt is within the municipality of Eggerding and has been named the most beautiful locality in the Schärding district three times. The historical details refer to different things: the date around 1390 concerns the first mention of the Hacköder family as lords of the castle, while the award applies to the locality of Hackledt.
Countryside, Hiking and Swimming
Eggerding lies in a valley basin. The surrounding hills offer sweeping views across the Innviertel and the neighbouring part of southern Bavaria. Those particularly interested in the landscape will find a different focus here than at the parish church and castle. The “Innviertler Panorama Hike” starts at the Eggerding sports centre. As route arrangements can change, check the current route before setting off.
The bathing biotope at the Hingsamer “Stumer” is intended for swimming during the summer months. Bear this seasonal schedule in mind when planning, and check before visiting whether it is currently open for use.
Music and Sporting Activities
The Eggerding Music Association’s annual Showtime programme combines film or orchestral music with a humorous running theme. If you would like to plan your stay around a concert, check the specific dates in advance.
There are also various options for sports enthusiasts: UTC Eggerding maintains two tennis courts. The Schärding model aircraft club’s facility in Eggerding hosts numerous national and international competitions. One third of the Schärding/Taufkirchen Golf Club is within the municipality of Eggerding. If you are planning to play golf, check that the course is operating before your trip.
