Julbach’s protected south-facing slope location is associated with a relatively mild climate. The area also has scenic trails with themed stops, as well as cultural sites. When planning your trip, you can choose to focus on the landscape, themed trails, or religious and local history.

Landscape and trails

The Guckerweg trail is 3.3 kilometres long and passes numerous telescopes. At the “Böhmerwaldblick mit Skigebiet Hochficht” viewing station, the trail offers a magnificent view over the hills of the Mühlviertel and the Bohemian Forest. Its length, telescopes and named viewpoint give the trail a clear profile for anyone whose choice is guided particularly by scenery and panoramic views.

The Weiselweg trail offers a different theme: it has six stations focusing on health. The two trails therefore appeal to different interests—views and telescopes on the Guckerweg, and health stations on the Weiselweg.

The moderately difficult Böhmerwald–Wegscheid hiking and riding route offers a different kind of itinerary. It is 27 kilometres long, takes about three hours and runs via Schwarzenberg, Julbach, Kohlstatt and Kollerschlag to Wegscheid. Julbach is one of the places along the route, which continues to Wegscheid. The length, approximate duration and difficulty level provide practical details for planning this tour. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out.

Religious traditions and historic sites

Every year on Good Friday, a procession makes its way up to the Calvary in Julbach. The Ten Commandments Trail begins at the Calvary Chapel in Julbach. These two details offer different ways to explore the town’s religious heritage: the procession as a recurring tradition, and the trail with its named starting point.

The Drosselstein, a former cult object, is also located on the Calvary. Its bowl-shaped depression remains moist even during severe drought. The stone thus combines particular historical significance with a precisely described feature of its shape and condition.

The Egerholz Chapel was built in 1649 as a plague chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity, above a spring in Egerholz. The Schiffler Chapel dates from 1880. St. Anne’s Parish Church houses an altar dedicated to St. Anne. The Cecilia Chapel, meanwhile, is a stop on the Julbach Pearl Trail. Together, these sites represent a variety of religious and cultural-historical connections, from a construction date and dedication to a chapel serving as a stop on a themed trail.

Local heritage house and Popp Garden

The Julbach local heritage house contains an exhibition on farming life and traditional crafts. Its subject focuses on rural life and craftsmanship. The open-air museum is part of Kunst Werk Julbach in Julbach.

Exotic plants and many fruit trees grow in Popp Garden, especially walnut and plum trees. Alongside the trails and historic sites, plants and fruit are also distinctive local themes. Visitors choosing what to explore in Julbach can therefore distinguish between views, religious history, rural life and the garden’s special features.
