Hills, forests, meadows and fields define Katsdorf. The area also has museums, historic traces in the landscape and a themed trail with named waypoints. This range offers several ways to explore the area: you can focus on the landscape, learn about local history through collections or use the K5 Panorama Trail as a specific reference point for planning your trip.
Landscape and the K5 Panorama Trail
The rolling landscape of Katsdorf is characterised by forests, meadows and fields. This gives the place a strong connection to its landscape, alongside its cultural attractions. If you are looking for a named trail to guide your trip, the K5 Panorama Trail is a specific point of reference.
The K5 has 14 information boards on themed topics. Its route passes through Bodendorf, Schloss Pottendorf, the PanzergrĂĽnde, the former SalzstraĂźe and Wolfsburg, as well as through the Gusental valley. The waypoints and information boards offer different aspects of the trail: the route passes through several named local and landscape features, while the boards give it its themed character.
Individual waypoints may change. If you plan to visit a specific place, check the current route in advance.
Historic traces and museums
The former Wolfsbach Castle is marked by a castle mound with clearly visible remains of the moat. Here, the historical traces are part of the landscape: the mound and moat remains characterise the site of the former castle. Schloss Breitenbruck offers a different connection to history. The well-preserved manor house is now used as a farm and stands on sloping meadowland at the edge of Breitenbruck.
Breitenbruck was mentioned in the Babenberg Urbar in 1230. This dated reference adds an earlier historical context to the manor house, which is now used as a farm; it does not automatically date the present-day building.
The museums also offer different areas of focus. The Katsdorf Carding and Local History Museum explores local history, the town’s economic life, and the cultivation and processing of the carding teasel. The Local Heritage Museum displays finds from the Neolithic, Bronze Age and Middle Ages, discovered on the castle mound in Bodendorf.
This lets you distinguish between two different ways of exploring Katsdorf’s history: the Carding and Local History Museum focuses on local life, the economy and a specific crop. The Local Heritage Museum turns its attention to finds from three periods and the place where they were discovered. If you are planning your trip around a particular theme, these different exhibits can help you choose between local history and archaeological finds.
Activities and getting there
Katsdorf has Motorikpark® fitness trails at ASKÖ, in Lungitz and by the primary school. Unlike the K5 Panorama Trail, they are described as facilities at three locations, not as a single continuous route. When planning, you can therefore decide whether to follow a named route with waypoints or visit one of the listed fitness trails.
The fitness facilities may be renovated or relocated. Check current location information before your visit. Katsdorf can be reached by the Summerauerbahn railway, bus services operated by Post and Ă–BB, the regional Rufbus on-demand bus service, or by car. If you are travelling by train, bus or Rufbus, check the latest timetables when planning your journey.
