Oberschlierbach combines scenic destinations and local culture: One hiking trail leads to a natural biotope and panoramic views, while another runs from the village square to Grillenparz. There are also seasonal blossoms along the stream and chapels associated with hiking trails. You can plan your outing according to your interests—for example, a viewpoint, nature watching, exercise or a historical and cultural connection.
Panoramic Views and the Seasons
From Oberschlierbach, the panoramic views extend across the Upper Kremstal, the Pyhrn-Priel region and the Alpine foothills. The unspoiled landscape is ideal for rest and relaxation. In the west of the municipality, the Grillparz viewpoint lies at an elevation of 842 m. From this specific viewpoint, the view stretches across several different landscapes.
The seasons also bring their own distinctive touch. In early May, countless blue periwinkle flowers line the bank of a stream along the RW Gruabholz. Oberschlierbach is also known for its fog-free autumn days. The streamside blossoms are therefore a feature of spring, while the fog-free days are characteristic of autumn.
Hiking Trails and Rest Stops
The RW Eckelsberg Panorama Trail leads to a natural biotope and a panoramic viewpoint. Hiking trail K80 runs from the village square to Grillenparz, at an elevation of 842 m; shortly before the summit, you reach Schmickinger Chapel. The differences between these destinations are clear: one trail links a natural biotope with a viewpoint, while the other specifies a starting point, a summit destination and a chapel shortly before the summit.
The Beni Trail offers a different kind of activity. It is an unpaved mountain biking trail for mountain bikers of all skill levels. From Grillparz, it runs between Kirchdorf and Schlierbach. The two options are clearly distinct in terms of activity: the Beni Trail is designated for mountain bikers, while the trails mentioned above are explored on foot.
Along the RW Gruabholz, the Gruama farm offers juices, fruit and vegetables. Check product availability before your visit. At Bauer in Reith, the alpine pasture hiking trail offers a goat cheese snack with cider, benches and a children's playground where you can take a break. You should also check the availability of the snack before your visit. This lets you plan for nature watching or a rest stop as separate priorities, without assuming that the products on offer are guaranteed to be available.
Chapels and Local History
Schiefer Chapel is a landmark on the RW Almwanderweg Bauer in Reith themed trail. The Schlierbach parish service schedule lists a service at Schiefer Chapel at 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. If you plan to attend the service, check the schedule before setting out.
Hofkapelle Schmiking is protected as a historic monument under an ordinance. The farm with Schiefer Chapel is also protected as a historic monument under an ordinance. The Baumgartnerhof, also known as the Bauernhof Bachl-Baumgarten, is protected as a historic monument under a decision pursuant to Section 3.
Among the dated events is Oberschlierbach's fourth Daffodil Festival, held in 2024 at Hochkogl on the first Sunday after Easter. Until 2020, Habinger Chapel was a stop on the annual pilgrimage from Schlierbach Abbey to Altpernstein. These two dates distinguish a past festival from a pilgrimage tradition documented through 2020.
