Gramais is a starting point for numerous hikes and mountain tours, as well as walks and walking tours. Well-marked, regularly maintained trails lead to nearby peaks and through dense green forests. Other options include mountain lakes, the MĂĽhlschrofen climbing garden, which is open for a limited season, and a circular cross-country ski trail in winter.
Hiking Trails and Mountain Lakes
Kogelsee is the largest of five mountain lakes in the mountain landscape at the foot of Kogelseespitze. Other features stand out at Gufelsee: it lies at an elevation of 2,300 metres and is known for its deep blue water. The lakes therefore differ in the points of reference described: Kogelsee in its size and location, and Gufelsee in its elevation and water colour.
The stated time for a hike from Gramais to RoĂźkarsee, which lies at an elevation of 2,123 metres, is about three hours. Actual walking time may vary depending on conditions. The route from Gramais to RoĂźkarsee also passes Schafkarsee, at an elevation of 2,000 metres, which can be visited along the way. This makes it possible to include another lake on the same route.
The Lechtal High Trail, with its numerous Alpine Club huts, can be reached directly from Gramais on a day tour. This is a different time frame from the approximately three hours stated for reaching RoĂźkarsee. Conditions on the high trail are alpine, and specific equipment is required; take this into account when planning your tour.
Season and Getting There
The MĂĽhlschrofen climbing garden is located directly within a wildlife protection area. For this reason, the climbing season is limited to the period from 15 May to 15 October. Check local conditions before climbing. Climbing courses for all levels can be booked through Bergschule Lechtal; check availability before your trip.
In winter, the Gramais circular cross-country ski trail offers a way to explore the municipality and the atmosphere of the mountain village. Whether the trail is groomed depends on snow conditions. Gramais can be reached from Häselgehr via a well-maintained road; road conditions may vary seasonally. The Gramais hiking bus operates only in summer. Check the timetable before your trip.
Gramais is part of the Tiroler Lech Nature Park. Together with the trails, lakes and seasonal activities, this offers a wide range of destinations to explore. The specific choice depends on your planned tour and the time of year.
A Cultural Landmark
The village’s history also has a specific landmark: the Catholic parish church of St John the Baptist was rebuilt between 1824 and 1832 and is protected as a historic monument by ordinance. Its construction period and protected status give the church its own historical context, alongside the outdoor activities that make Gramais a starting point for walks and mountain tours.
