The KlimmbrĂĽcke Nature Park Center is located near Elmen on a bridge over the Lech. The river flows through the municipality from south to north; Elmen also lies at the entrance to the Bschlaber Valley. The midpoint of the Lech Cycle Path is also in Elmen. There, comprehensive information about the Tyrolean Lech Nature Park is available. The river, valley entrance and cycle path provide different points of reference for finding your way around the village.
Wild River and Nature
The Klimmbrücke Nature Park Center houses the “Wild River Adventure” exhibition. The nature exhibition “The Last Wild One” introduces visitors to dry gravel banks, riparian forests, steep side valleys, and the animals and plants of the wild Lech. The Lech is therefore both a geographical point of reference and a subject of nature. These are two distinct aspects to consider when planning a trip: the location describes where Elmen is, while the exhibitions focus on the river landscape and its animal and plant life.
The Stablalm alpine pasture is located at an elevation of 1,412 meters in Elmen in the Lech Valley. This elevation complements the village’s location by the river and at the entrance to the Bschlaber Valley with a specific geographical point of reference. Alongside the Lech’s north-south course, the elevation provides another way to orient yourself.
Hiking and Getting Around
The Vorderhornbach–Elmen circular hiking trail connects Vorderhornbach, Martinau and Elmen along the Lech. It is an easy circular hike that takes about two hours. The approximate duration provides a general timeframe for planning your day. Bus route 110 serves the “Elmen Martinau” stop, providing access to the circular trail. If you plan to use the stop as your starting point, check the route’s timetable in advance.
Elmen also has walking paths through the Lech floodplains, across green meadows and through forests. The circular hike is defined by its connected villages and approximate duration, while the walking paths are described by the landscapes they pass through. If you prefer a clearly defined tour, the circular route offers a straightforward unit for planning; if you would like to explore different natural areas on foot, you can consider the walking paths.
Winter Activities
There are cross-country ski trails around the fields of Elmen, with good connections to the Lech Valley trail network. There is also an ice-skating rink and the opportunity to play Bavarian curling. The activities differ in focus: cross-country skiing connects to the Lech Valley trail network, while ice skating and Bavarian curling take place on the ice. You can choose between the winter activities based on what you are looking for.
Architecture and Local History
The parish church of the Three Holy Kings has a Baroque nave and a Gothic tower. Two distinct architectural styles thus stand side by side in a single building. The Chapel of the Holy Trinity in the district of Klimm is one of Elmen’s listed monuments. Local tradition links the “Clever Women of Elmen” to an event in 1632: the women are said to have tricked Swedish soldiers into retreating. These specific architectural features and a local historical tradition offer different ways to explore the village’s history.
