Angath lies on the Inn and offers direct access to the Inn Cycle Path. Alongside the river and cycle route, Angath’s history of shipping on the Inn and local clubs focused on nativity scene making and brass band music are among the town’s distinctive features. This gives you several options when planning your trip: cycling along the Inn, local cultural events, and religious or historical heritage.
Inn Cycle Path and Village Routes
The Inn Cycle Path runs 211 kilometres across Tyrol and is family-friendly. You can join it directly in Angath. The route is mostly characterised by flat riverside paths, though there are also a few short climbs at the beginning; it has no particular technical difficulties. The 211 kilometres describe the route’s full regional scope; for your ride, choose a suitable section. There are also walking routes in the village. As local diversions and trail conditions can change, check the current route before setting off. The Kirche Angath car park serves as parking for the Inn loop. Check current availability before travelling there.
Angath’s History on the Inn
In the 15th and 16th centuries, Angath was a centre of shipping on the Inn and shipbuilding in Tyrol. At that time, the three main ports in Tyrol were Hall in Tirol, Langkampfen and Angath. With these three ports, Angath forms part of Tyrol’s wider river history. The references to both shipping on the Inn and shipbuilding connect transport and craftsmanship in the town’s history at the time.
Religious Sites and Monuments
Angath parish church is dedicated to the Holy Spirit. The Kammerhof inn, the Old Schoolhouse and the First Chapel of the Suffering Saviour/FĂĽrth Chapel are protected monuments. The Way of the Cross from the First Chapel to Mariastein is also protected. The local heritage thus encompasses buildings, religious sites and a route with two named endpoints.
Nativity Scene Making as a Club Activity
From September to May, the Angath Nativity Scene Association holds its “Kripperlehoagascht” at the club premises on the first Monday of every month from 7 pm. The association offers adult workshops where participants learn traditional nativity scene-making techniques and create their own nativity scenes to their individual designs. Children can take part in workshops featuring creative nativity scene making, age-appropriate guidance and a range of design options. Nativity scene exhibitions are also among the association’s events. Nativity scene making is therefore represented both by exhibitions and by workshops where participants can create their own scenes.
Open-Air Concerts and Brass Band Music
The Angath Federal Brass Band performs at numerous open-air concerts. These take place in the band’s own music pavilion and are catered by local clubs. The annual concert traditionally features both traditional and modern brass band music. If a concert is part of your travel plans, be sure to check the specific event date.
