The Southeast Styrian Hill Country Wine Road ends in the centre of Sankt Peter am Ottersbach, where three St. Peter wine hiking trails also begin. This convergence provides a practical starting point for choosing a route; views, culture and seasonal swimming are other distinct highlights.
Trails and Tastings
The town centre is a reference point for the wine hiking trails: the routes mentioned end and begin there in different ways. The Wine and Mill Trail, by contrast, starts at Petersplatz and follows the Ottersbach stream to Ottersbach Mill. The rose garden is located directly on a circular hiking trail. When choosing a route, you can distinguish between the wine hiking trails in the centre, the trail along the Ottersbach and the circular route with the rose garden.
Tastings are also tied to specific trails. Along the Wine and Tower Trail, winemakers invite visitors to tastings. Along the Wine and Mill Trail, some winemakers invite visitors to sample their products. Please confirm your participation directly with the respective winemakers before you arrive.
Wine Observation Tower and Panorama
The wine observation tower is a 28-metre-high wooden structure shaped like a wine glass. From a height of 25 metres, it offers panoramic views of Slovenia and the Pohorje Mountains, the Karawanks and the Schöckl, the Gleinalm and Riegersburg Castle, as well as the Hungarian Plain. The structure and the views give a visit a different focus from the trails: here, the main attraction is the view across the landscapes mentioned.
Culture and Guided Activities
The parish church of St. Peter am Ottersbach is a listed building. Anton's Vintage Car Museum displays around 40 tractors, including a 1918 Fordson, considered the oldest tractor in the collection. The Hunting, Nature and Poaching Museum displays hunting equipment and taxidermied specimens of local wildlife. The cultural attractions thus cover quite different subjects: a listed church, a tractor collection and a museum focused on hunting and nature.
The Hunting, Nature and Poaching Museum offers half-day and full-day guided museum tours and hikes. You need to contact the museum in advance to arrange these guided activities. If you are planning a tour or hike, get in touch beforehand and consider whether a half-day or full-day activity would suit you.
Outdoor Pool and Traditional Wine Tavern
The St. Peter am Ottersbach leisure complex includes an outdoor pool with a large swimming pool, a water slide and a children's pool. As it is open seasonally, check its opening period before your trip.
Sepp's BerglermĂĽhle is a traditional wine tavern serving wine with food prepared exclusively from local products. Check its opening dates before you arrive. Together with the tastings along the trails mentioned above, it offers a distinct culinary highlight alongside views, culture and outdoor activities.
