Wine, local history and landscape offer different ways to shape a stay in Sankt Anna Am Aigen. At the Styrian Wine Shop, Styrian wines and regional products take centre stage; the Sixthaus, parish church and memorial point to different chapters in the town’s history. The Path of the Senses adds a landscape-focused dimension. These themes offer different starting points for planning a stay.
Wine and regional products
At the Styrian Wine Shop, you can taste and take home around 220 select wines from the three Styrian wine-growing regions, with expert advice. The selection may change over time. The range also includes sparkling wines from local vintners, spirits, chocolates, wine accessories and handcrafted products. So if you would like to discover a variety of regional products, you will find more here than just a selection of wines.
Tastings for groups of eight or more are available by prior arrangement. If you are planning a group tasting, book in advance and confirm the details before you arrive. This makes it possible to include the visit in your travel plans rather than assuming it will be available as a spontaneous tasting.
Local history and places of remembrance
The Sixthaus stands right by the church square and is considered the oldest house in Sankt Anna Am Aigen. The well-preserved building dates back to the 18th century. The parish church, in turn, stands on the site of a chapel dedicated to St Anne, first mentioned in 1545. Construction of the present church was completed in 1712; among its works of art is a painting of the Holy Trinity dating from around 1730.
These dates refer to different milestones: 1545 is the first mention of the chapel, 1712 marks the completion of the church, and the painting dates from around 1730. This makes it possible to distinguish the church’s historical details chronologically without combining them into a single construction event.
The memorial in the centre of Sankt Anna Am Aigen commemorates wartime events and was rebuilt in 1999. Another historical point of interest is the Maria Theresa Stone: a boundary stone erected during the reign of Empress Maria Theresa. These two subjects add remembrance and border history to the architectural history.
The Anton Weiß Bee Museum is located in Jamm near Sankt Anna Am Aigen. It showcases traditional beekeeping from the last century, offering a distinct perspective on the region’s craft history. Together with the sites in the town centre, the museum broadens the view to different aspects of the past without needing to combine them into a single historical narrative.
Landscape and nature
The Path of the Senses leads through geologically varied terrain and reaches elevations of up to 600 metres. The changing geology and elevation define this landscape experience. Höll, meanwhile, is part of the Natura 2000 site. Nature enthusiasts will find two different points of interest here: the trail, with its geological diversity, and Höll, with its protected-area status.
