Mühldorf Bei Feldbach lies at the foot of the Steinberg. For a stay here, the landscape, cycling and hiking routes, and cultural offerings provide different possible focal points. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether geology, outdoor activities or culture will shape your travel plans.

Steinberg and the Landscape

The Steinberg of Mühldorf is an ancient volcanic cone. The volcanic formation “Steinberg of Mühldorf” was formed about 2.64 million years ago. It consists of several lava and tuff complexes of different ages that have fused together. The formation date and composition complement each other: the age places the formation in time, while the complexes of different ages reveal its geological structure. Numerous orchards and vineyards run through Mühldorf, adding a cultivated aspect to the volcanic landscape. The geological origins and present-day cultural landscape point to two different time periods in the history of the place.

Cycling and Hiking Routes

Main Cycle Route 2 (HR 2) runs 15.8 kilometres from Auersbach to Mühldorf. Its two endpoints and precise length provide a clearly defined reference for planning a cycling trip. The “MÜHLDORF Fischteichrunde” is a hiking route through Taxbergwald and along Edelsbach to the fishponds, which serve as a refreshment stop for thirsty hikers. The cycling and hiking options already differ in their mode of transport and the route described. The out-and-back section from the inn to the fishponds is wheelchair accessible.

The “Rückgrat” hiking trail runs from Feldbach through Mühldorf, Gossendorf and the Mühlsteinbruch to the spa town of Bad Gleichenberg, forming the backbone of the hiking trail network. Unlike the Fischteichrunde, which leads to a named destination, “Rückgrat” passes through several places on its way to a spa town. The two hiking options therefore differ in their routes and stated destinations.

Chapel, Memorial Trail and Nostalgiewelt

The Herz-Jesu Chapel in Mühldorf was built in 1932 and consecrated on 7 May 1933. The two dates have different roles: 1932 marks its construction, while 7 May 1933 marks its consecration. The Martin Gutl Memorial Trail is dedicated to the memory of the priest Martin Gutl. The chapel and memorial trail thus mark different historical points: the building and its consecration on the one hand, and the remembrance of a priest on the other.

At Nostalgiewelt Posch, visitors can enter the cockpit of a walk-in aircraft on the roof. Nostalgiewelt also offers tours through the Vulkanland in a vintage car that is over 100 years old. Visitors can choose between two different experiences: access to the cockpit on site or a drive through the region in a historic car.
