At Michaelerberg, hiking trails of varying lengths sit alongside a striking viewpoint and listed historic buildings. The Michaelerberghaus is located at 1,300 m on Michaelerberg in Moosheim, directly on long-distance trail 100. From there, panoramic views stretch across the Gröbminger Land and toward the ridge, Stoderzinken and the Dachstein massif. These destinations offer several possible focuses for a stay: a stage, a hike to the summit cross or an interest in historic buildings.

Hikes from a stage to a summit

The Panorama Trail 100 circular route is about 117 km long and passes through Michaelerberg. Two stages are named for its southern section: the first takes 5.5 hours and runs from Ă–blarn via Gatschberg and Stein an der Enns to Michaelerberg. The second leads from Michaelerberg through the Sattental valley. The circular route describes the total distance; the time estimate applies to the first stage. In this sequence of stages, Michaelerberg is at the end of the first section and the start of the next.

The hike to Kochofen, starting and ending at the Michaelerberghaus, is 7.1 km long, with 730 m of ascent and 730 m of descent. It leads through the forest, with occasional views down into the Sattental valley. Above the tree line, it continues over a rocky ridge of Sölker marble to the summit cross. Its shared starting and finishing point at the house distinguishes it as a tour that begins and ends there, unlike the stages of the Panorama Trail.

The route to the Stiegleralm is an easy family hike from the Michaelerberghaus to the Stiegleralm. It follows a farm track suitable for strollers. This tour is defined primarily by its explicitly stated classification as a family hike and by the type of path, whereas the Kochofen route is described by its summit destination, elevation gain and distance.

Location and historic buildings

A 7 km road with an elevation gain of 500 m climbs from Moosheim on the Enns to the Michaelerberghaus. This specifies the starting point, road length and elevation gain on the way to the house.

In the Styrian monuments register of the Federal Monuments Authority dated 23 June 2026, the Catholic branch church of St. Michael, with its former cemetery grounds in Moosheim, and the Moosheim castle complex, also known as Thanneck or Thonegg, are listed as protected monuments. St. Michael’s Church is dedicated to Saint Michael and dates from the 13th century. These buildings add a historical focus to the hiking destinations.

Winter routes with different starting points

The toboggan run at Michaelerberg is currently closed. It starts at the Michaelerberghaus, initially follows a 3 km groomed forest road in the direction of Kochofen, and then descends through the forest on natural snow. The run is unlit and has no lift. The Michaelerberghaus ski tour is a separate route that starts directly at Ennsboden in Moosheim.
