Donnersbachwald brings together a range of travel interests: skiing, marked trails, a treasure hunt and religious culture. You can then tailor your plans using specific details such as the length of the pistes, trail routes, altitude and seasonal lift operation.

Skiing: Piste Length and Children’s Ski Carousel

The Riesneralm ski area has 32 varied kilometres of pistes, ranging from easy to challenging. The children’s ski carousel offers a different, more precisely quantified scale: more than 5 ha of piste area, five lifts and five runs. It is also open to visitors who are not taking a ski lesson. These figures describe different measures: the ski area is characterised by the total length of its pistes, while the children’s ski carousel is described in terms of area, lifts and runs. Check seasonal operation and ticket details separately before making firm plans for a day of skiing.

Hiking Trails and Themed Experiences

The third stage of the Hemma Pilgrimage Trail leads from Donnersbachwald over the Glattjoch pass to Oberwölz. This identifies the stage’s starting point, intermediate point and destination. The red-white-red marked Trail No. 936 starts in front of the Lahrerbrücke bridge, by the EGG Donnersbachwald power station. The routes offer different planning details: the Hemma stage is described by its route through the named places, while the exact starting point is given for Trail No. 936.

The KRISPINI children’s treasure hunt offers a different way to explore. It follows the hiking trail from Hotel Berghof *** to the Hochsitz and includes nine puzzle stations. The summit barefoot trail on the Riesneralm has a variety of surfaces and activity stations. Those who enjoy solving puzzles can follow the KRISPINI trail; those who want to experience different surfaces can try the barefoot trail.

Summit Altitude and Religious Culture

The chairlift’s mountain station for the summit experience on the Riesneralm in Donnersbachwald is at an altitude of 1,900 m. The lift operates seasonally; check the relevant operating times when planning this summit experience. At 1,988 m, Glattjoch Chapel is the highest religious building in Styria. Donnersbachwald Parish Church of St. Leonard (and Patritius) is dedicated to St. Leonard and Patritius. The two religious buildings can be distinguished by different features: the chapel is notable for its exceptional altitude, while the parish church is dedicated to two saints. The two altitude figures refer to different points of reference: one to the chairlift’s mountain station and the other to the chapel itself.
