Schüttdorf can be explored with different kinds of outings in mind: hiking trails leading to destinations such as the Ebenbergalm or Zell am See, activities on the southern shore of Lake Zell, and access to the Schmittenhöhe hiking area. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether hiking, cross-country skiing or spending time by the water will shape your stay.
Hiking: trails and destinations
The “Ebenbergalmweg” starts at the “Dorfschenke” in Schüttdorf and climbs through the forest via the Ebenbergalm. Along the way, it offers views of Lake Zell. The route leads to the Ebenbergalm or into the centre of Zell am See. When planning your outing, you can therefore choose whether to focus on the alpine hut or the town centre.
The “Seespitz-Zaunlückensteig” starts at the Nikolaus-Gassner-Promenade in Schüttdorf and climbs to the Plettsauberg and the reservoir at Plettsaukopf. A route in the WiesenKönigReich can be started in the Granisiedlung district near the tennis hall.
The high-altitude hike from Sonnkogel to Schüttdorf also eventually returns to the valley station of the areitXpress and offers views of 30 peaks over 3,000 metres. The areitXpress is a modern 10-person gondola lift from the Schüttdorf district to Schmittenhöhe. In summer, it offers a convenient starting point for the Schmittenhöhe hiking area. The valley station is therefore a useful landmark for a hike that includes a return and a ride up by cable car. Check seasonal lift operations before planning.
At Lake Zell: the lido and cross-country ski trail
The Seespitz lido is located on the southern shore of Lake Zell in the Schüttdorf district. It provides access to the lake and has two jetties extending into the water, as well as a solar-heated swimming pool. You can rent stand-up paddleboards and windsurfing equipment at the windsurfing centre next to the lido. For your plans, it is advisable to check the lido’s current operating status and the availability of rentals.
In winter, the “Schüttdorf Loipe” offers a different perspective on the lake: this flat, beginner-friendly cross-country ski trail runs along the winter shoreline and is about seven kilometres long. Four kilometres of the route pass through the nature reserve on the southern shore of Lake Zell. As trail grooming and seasonal availability may vary, check the current trail conditions in advance.
Bus connections and local culture
The “Schüttdorf-Bruckberg-Zellermoos” town bus runs Monday to Friday on weekdays. At the Schüttdorf ÖBB-Postbusgarage, you can connect to bus 660 to Zell am See. Check the current timetable before travelling so you can factor the weekday service and connection into your plans.
St Mary’s Chapel, with its statue of “Maria am Weg”, is located in Schüttdorf Parish Church. It adds a specific cultural point of interest in the village to the hiking and lakeside activities.
