Almdorf Königsleiten combines mountain activities with hiking trails and cultural stops. The Zillertal Arena stretches from Zell im Zillertal via Gerlos to Wald-Königsleiten and Krimml-Hochkrimml. There are also trails through a variety of landscapes, a yodel hiking trail and the village church in the town centre. When planning, it helps to distinguish between these different highlights: skiing, hiking, cycling and cultural discoveries each have their own destinations.

Skiing and trails from the mountain station

The Zillertal Arena offers 150 kilometres of ski slopes and has 52 lifts. Skiing is possible at altitudes of up to 2,500 metres. The Dorfbahn Königsleiten takes you directly from Königsleiten to the mountain station at an altitude of 2,200 metres. From there, you can access numerous hiking trails and idyllic mountain huts, as well as enjoy views of the Zillertal Alps and the Hohe Tauern.

The family hike to Königsleitenspitze also starts at the mountain station. It leads to the 2,315-metre summit. For a different landscape, try the Planet Trail: it passes through forests, raised bogs and alpine meadows and offers views of glacial formations in Hohe Tauern National Park. The Königsleiten–Hochkrimml/Filzstein trail is described as a winter hike; from there, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Zillertal Alps, the grassy mountains and the Hohe Tauern.

Yodel Trail and village church

The Yodel Hiking Trail starts at the mountain station of the Dorfbahn Königsleiten; its first stop is next to the Gipfeltreffen restaurant. At the interactive stations, visitors can learn traditional yodels by singing along with an audio station. The trail is intended for summer use and is free of charge. Visiting opportunities depend on the cable car season, so check the seasonal timetable before your visit.

The Christkönigskapelle, Königsleiten’s village church, stands in the town centre. Built in 1989 on a slight rise, it is dedicated to Christ the King and depicts Christ as the Redeemer, suspended above the ground. The Yodel Hiking Trail and the chapel offer different cultural points of interest: one is an interactive audio station, the other a sacred building with a specific dedication and depiction.

More activities: TRIAL, Gipfelwelt and cycling

The Königsleiten electric TRIAL park is located at an altitude of 1,600 metres and has two courses. They differ in difficulty and length. Gipfelwelt Königsleiten, by the Kröndlwurmsee, features a nature playground and a wooden marble run.

There are also different route descriptions for cycling tours. One tour reaches the holiday village of Königsleiten, at an altitude of 1,600 metres, after about seven kilometres from the centre of Wald. Another follows the Gerlos Alpine Road to Krimml and returns to Wald via the Tauern Cycle Path. The first description gives an approximate route from the town centre to the holiday village; the second describes a round trip, travelling out via the Alpine Road and returning via the Tauern Cycle Path.

Landscape and getting around

Wald and Königsleiten lie between the Pinzgau grassy mountains to the north and the mountain ranges of the Hohe Tauern to the south. Hiking buses run between Wald, Krimml, Hochkrimml and Königsleiten, as well as to the Zillertal.
