Röhrabrunn lies on the northern slope of the last foothills of the extensive Ernstbrunn Forest. To the southeast, Grünberg rises to 315 m; the Zaya stream flows between the village and Grünberg. The surrounding area is a beautifully wooded hill country. Within the cadastral municipality of Röhrabrunn, forest covers 5.5 km², or half of the area. The combination of the northern slope, the elevation to the southeast and the stream in between gives a clear picture of the landscape around the village; the forested area adds a sense of scale for the cadastral municipality.
Cycling: Surfaces and Route Points
Two routes can be distinguished by different features. The “101 Oberleis Klassik XXL” route passes through Röhrabrunn. Its surface is 19 percent asphalt and 81 percent gravel or dirt. Gravel and dirt therefore make up by far the larger share; if the surface matters when choosing a route, this breakdown offers a useful guide. The Ernstbrunn Border Loop follows the Blauburger Cycle Route as far as Röhrabrunn and reaches the Zaya stream at route kilometre 51.3. For this route, the course and a precise point along the way are the key details. The first route can therefore be described by its mix of surfaces, while the second is defined by its route section and the stream as a named waypoint.
The routes also differ in their connection to the village: Route 101 passes through Röhrabrunn, while the Border Loop follows the Blauburger Cycle Route as far as the village and reaches the Zaya stream at kilometre 51.3. On foot, Stage 4 of the Kellertrift long-distance hiking trail eventually leads to Röhrabrunn. This allows you to distinguish between a route passing through, a notable waypoint and a stage destination when planning your trip.
Hiking and Chapels
Grein Chapel is located in the forest southeast of Röhrabrunn and is a popular excursion destination. The Chapel of Our Lady in Röhrabrunn 90 is protected as a historic monument under an ordinance. The two chapels offer different cultural points of interest: the setting in the forest and its status as an excursion destination define Grein Chapel, while the village chapel is specifically identified by its name, address and protected status. If you are interested in local culture, you can distinguish between the two destinations based on these different features.
Getting There and Places to Eat
Public road access to Röhrabrunn is only from the east, as no provincial road connects at the western end of the village. If you are planning to travel by road, make your way in via the eastern entrance. There is still an inn and a snack station in the village. These are two different places to eat; if you are planning a break, check before your visit whether either option is available during your travel dates.
Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests
If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Röhrabrunn, consider your travel interests when choosing the village: the cycling routes, the stage destination on the long-distance hiking trail and the chapels offer different things to focus on, while the forest, hills and stream shape the surrounding landscape.
