Weistrach lies in the heart of the Mostviertel, amid orchards. There are several different options to focus on when planning your trip: views, climbing, hiking, cycling, horse riding and culture.
Panoramic views and climbing routes
The Empress Elisabeth Lookout Tower stands on Plattenberg at an elevation of 750 m. From there, views extend across the southern Mostviertel, into the Alpine foothills around the Gesäuse and far into the Mühlviertel and Traunviertel in Upper Austria. These landscapes give the viewpoint a wide geographic reach.
At ROCK THE SISSI, climbing enthusiasts can scale the 15.5-metre-high walls of the 18.5-metre-high observation tower on twelve routes, each in a single colour. The wall height and the height of the tower as a whole are two different measurements. Check the climbing conditions before your visit.
On foot, by bike and by train
The Most Hiking Trail starts in Weistrach. It can be reached by Westbahn train via the St. Johann - Weistrach stop; check current connections before travelling. The Stiftsblick cycling route can also be started in Weistrach. For planning, this means that the Most Hiking Trail is a walking option accessible by train via the stop mentioned above, while the cycling route has its own starting point in town.
Culture, architecture and event dates
The Weistracher Mostkirtag takes place annually at the end of April, when the pear trees are in full bloom. The exact date may vary; if the festival is the reason for your trip, check the date for the year in question. Exhibitions and concerts are regularly held at the Kulturhof in Weistrach. If you want to attend a particular programme, check the relevant event date. The two cultural offerings have different scheduling: the Mostkirtag is tied to the annual period at the end of April, while exhibitions and concerts are held regularly at the Kulturhof.
The parish church of St Stephen in Weistrach is a Late Gothic hall church dating from around 1520. The term “hall church” describes a church interior in which the nave and side aisles are approximately the same height. Weistrach therefore brings together a clearly defined architectural style and an approximate historical date.
Horse-riding options and tailored trip planning
The Gut Pöllndorf Icelandic horse farm offers visitors taster weekends, youth riding weeks, riding badge courses and multi-day trail rides led by experienced instructors. The programme includes a range of formats, from weekends and courses to multi-day rides. If a particular programme is important to your trip, check the booking conditions in advance.
For hiking, cycling, climbing or horse riding, you can choose the focus that suits your interests. This lets you plan your trip around a specific date or the activity you want.
