Cycling and hiking
The Kitzelberg Tour passes through the Oberseidendorf area: the approximately 19-kilometre cycling route runs around Lake Klopein. A 6.1-kilometre circular hiking trail also includes Oberseidendorf, but starts in Seelach and leads via Schreckendorf, the Völkermarkt Reservoir and the railway bridge in Seidendorf back to Seelach. This distinction is important for orientation: on the hike, Oberseidendorf is a stop, not the stated starting point.
At around 19 kilometres, the cycling loop is considerably longer than the hiking trail and also differs in how you travel. A distinctive section of the Kitzelberg Tour runs parallel to the railway line for 1.6 kilometres, as far as Schreckendorf. You can therefore choose between a cycling loop around the lake and a hiking circuit with several named stops. The route lengths help you gauge the scope of each option, but do not indicate how long either one takes. Schreckendorf is a shared reference point in the descriptions: it lies on the hiking circuit and also marks the end of the 1.6-kilometre section of the Kitzelberg Tour that runs parallel to the railway line.
Trails and fishing at Kleinsee
There are well-marked trails around Kleinsee for hiking, running and Nordic walking. This adds another way to tailor your stay to your preferred activity, alongside the two routes described above. Fishing is also permitted in Kleinsee, subject to closed seasons and minimum size limits. Fish species include pike, wels catfish, zander, carp, tench and whitefish. If you plan to fish, take closed seasons and minimum size limits into account when planning.
Culture nearby
A historic landmark in the nearby area is the castle rock of Stein im Jauntal, on the right bank of the Drava near St. Kanzian am Klopeiner See. The cultural site dates back to late antiquity. Cultural attractions thus complement the choice of cycling and hiking trails.
In the parish of St. Laurentius in Stein, the Striezelwerfen takes place every year on the Sunday after the feast day of Saint Agatha. The tradition is therefore tied to a specific Sunday in the year. If you would like to take the date into account during your stay, check the event date in advance. If cultural events matter more to you than a set route distance, you can plan your visit around the Striezelwerfen.
