The Drau Cycle Tour Südkärnten R1 passes through Kleindiex between St. Lorenzen and Ruden. Nearby, Lippekogel and historic buildings also draw attention to geology, landscape and engineering. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Kleindiex, these distinctions can help you plan: you can focus on a cycling route, geological history or cultural heritage.

Landscape and geology at Lippekogel

Kleindiex is one of the localities in the municipality of Ruden. Ruden is known as a sunny, quiet and wooded area. Lippekogel near Kleindiex is part of the southernmost section of the Wallersberg hill country. It is made up, among other things, of Silurian greywacke sandstone and quartzite. The last moraines pushed forward by the Drau Glacier were also deposited at Lippekogel. The rock types and moraines draw attention to two chapters of geological history: the geological structure of the hill country and its former glaciation. The hill therefore offers a tangible connection to the landscape alongside the cycling and cultural heritage themes.

Cycling on routes with different points of reference

The Drau Cycle Tour Südkärnten R1 passes through Kleindiex to Ruden; there, the Drau Cycle Path then runs for about four kilometres along the Lavamünder Bundesstraße. Check current route conditions before setting out, as road conditions can change.

A 2023 tour plan describes an easy mountain bike tour starting and ending in Griffen and passing through Ruden, Kleindiex and St. Peter/W. The loop covers about 25 kilometres and 200 metres of elevation gain. The two route descriptions offer different points of reference: the R1 passes through Kleindiex between St. Lorenzen and Ruden; the mountain bike plan gives the approximate distance, elevation gain and difficulty of a specific tour.

Buildings and pilgrimage

Schloss Lippitzbach, near Kleindiex, is a grand estate house dating from the early 19th century, with a historic chapel extension. The Lippitzbach Bridge over the Drau is also nearby. It is one of the most significant surviving engineering structures built by the renowned Viennese bridge-building company Ignaz Gridl. The castle and the bridge offer contrasting points of interest: one is a historic house with a chapel extension, the other a surviving engineering structure.

The Jauntal Dreibergelauf adds a traditional recurring pilgrimage to the area’s buildings. Near Kleindiex, the pilgrimage begins with a midnight Mass at the pilgrimage church on Lisnaberg. Dates vary from year to year. The route leads from Lisnaberg through the Dobrowa to Lippitzbach; how the route is organised may vary from year to year. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the dates for the relevant year.

Road traffic information

Two 30 km/h regulations should be distinguished when navigating the local roads. A municipal ordinance issued in August 2025 establishes a 30 km/h zone in the built-up area of Kleindiex. A speed limit of 30 km/h applies in both directions on the municipal road between Kleindiex and Kraßnitz.
