Eisentratten brings together sacred architectural history and traces of ironworking: the Protestant church and the Konstantin blast furnace represent different historical aspects of the town. There is also a listed civic building and a Catholic church near the blast furnace. When planning your trip, it is also worth considering Eisentratten’s place in the Innerkrems holiday region.

Churches and their historical associations

The Protestant Church of Eisentratten dates from 1803. Its Baroque altar, featuring the four Evangelists, is dated 1805. The church and altar are therefore associated with two consecutive but different years: the church building is two years older. The four Evangelists add a clearly defined religious theme. The building and its furnishings can thus be viewed as two aspects of the town’s history.

The Catholic Friedenskirche is located on the main road, very close to the Konstantin blast furnace. While the Protestant church is notable for its construction date and altar, the location of the Friedenskirche directly links a place of worship with an industrial landmark. These different associations can shape your cultural orientation: on the one hand, the dates of a church and its altar; on the other, the proximity between a sacred building and a blast furnace.

Blast furnace, heritage protection and TĂĽrggenhaus

The Konstantin blast furnace in Eisentratten was built in 1861 as a new furnace measuring 10.64 metres high. The former blast furnace site, including the Konstantin blast furnace, is protected as a historic monument under an ordinance. The site and the civic building known as Türkhaus/Türgghaus are listed in the Federal Monuments Authority’s register. The civic building is protected by a decision under Section 3.

The surviving Türggenhaus was the former residence of iron entrepreneur Jakob Türgg, who built the Konstantin blast furnace. This connects the furnace’s history not only with its construction date and height, but also with a specific person. It offers an additional perspective on the area’s industrial heritage: the blast furnace represents the site, while Jakob Türgg represents the entrepreneur who built it.

Getting your bearings and continuing your journey through the region

A historical excursion description locates the Türggenhaus west of the main road, on a side road. The side road branches off by the blast furnace and rejoins the main road near the Gasthof Post after about 300 m. This gives the house’s location, the approximate stretch of road and its two reference points.

A historical excursion guide also describes a route from Eisentratten along the B99 beside the Lieser to KremsbrĂĽcke. At KremsbrĂĽcke, it turns onto the L19 towards Innerkrems. This is a different scale from the side road by the TĂĽrggenhaus: here, the focus is on continuing through the region, while there, it is on the location of a single house. If you use this description for a trip today, check the road conditions separately.

Winter activities and finding accommodation

In the Innerkrems holiday region, Eisentratten is counted among the places associated with family-friendly winter experiences. This adds a seasonal perspective to the town’s architectural and industrial history. The two themes appeal to different travel interests: historic buildings and ironworking on the one hand, and the regional context of winter experiences on the other.

This can help you clarify the purpose of your trip before choosing accommodation.
