Eggen is part of two clearly defined routes: a cycling loop leads through the village, and the Hoch-St.-Paul-Weg St. Urban (E) also passes through Eggen towards Hoch St. Paul. While the cycling loop names several places along its route, the other trail focuses on forest, views and the Simonhöhe. Liebenfels municipality also has Liebenfels Castle, an archery course and a climbing facility. These different highlights give you concrete points of reference for choosing routes and experiences to suit your interests.

A cycling loop through Eggen

The cycling loop runs from St. Veit via Wegscheide, St. Paul, Eggen, Simonhöhe, St. Urban and Liebenfels, and returns to St. Veit. This makes Eggen one stop on a loop that passes through several named places. The fact that St. Veit is named at both the beginning and end makes the circular route easy to follow. When planning your trip, you can consider Eggen as part of the entire route rather than viewing the village separately from its course.

Forest, views and the Simonhöhe

The Hoch-St.-Paul-Weg St. Urban (E) passes through Eggen towards Hoch St. Paul. It runs through the forest around the Paulsberg to the Simonhöhe, a hiking and winter sports area. The trail offers sweeping views of Lake Urbansee and down towards the Karawanken. This route brings together forest, destination and views. By comparison, the cycling loop is defined above all by its sequence of named places. The two routes can therefore be viewed in terms of their different landscapes and routes.

Liebenfels municipality also has an extensive network of cycling and hiking trails. This broader network complements the two specifically named routes and is another consideration when planning your trip if you would like to include cycling and hiking.

Castle, archery and climbing in Liebenfels municipality

Liebenfels Castle is a twin castle with two massive keeps. From the castle, the view extends across the entire Karawanken range to the Carnic Alps. The twin design and the two keeps give the building a distinctive architectural character, while the expansive view adds a landscape highlight. The castle thus combines a specific architectural feature with far-reaching mountain views.

The archery course features 28 life-size 3D animal targets. Its route follows streams, passes through woodland and leads by rock faces and viewpoints. The targets and varied landscape features define the course; quiet, movement and nature are also part of the archery experience.

The climbing facility covers around 2,500 m² and includes a climbable rock face approximately 70 m long and 40 m high, as well as an adjoining low-rope course. Routes range in difficulty from grade 1 to 7 and are suitable for beginners and experienced climbers. Climbing courses for beginners and advanced climbers are available on request. If you would like to book a course, enquire in advance. Unlike archery, the focus here is on the rock face, route grades and low-rope course, while the 3D animal targets and the landscape along the route are the defining features of the archery course.
