Liesing combines hiking with local culture: the Gail hiking trail is a circular route through forests and meadows and along waterways, while museums and music offerings provide a different focus. This gives you two clear interests to choose between during your stay: time on a hiking trail and cultural activities in the village. If you are looking for accommodation in Liesing, you can first decide whether hiking or village culture should shape your stay.

Hiking on two named trails

The Gailwanderung Liesing is a circular route through forests and meadows and along waterways. It follows the Gail and crosses the Kosenbach. Possible starting points are Liesing below the church or the Liesingergraben at the cultural and leisure center. This lets you plan to start at one of two specifically named locations. Trail conditions can change, so check them before setting out. The circular route returns to the starting point.

The Brot- & Morendenweg also starts at the cultural and leisure center in Klebas near Liesing. Both trails therefore share a starting point; for the Gailwanderung, you can also start below the church. This distinction gives you a specific point of reference when planning your outing based on the starting location.

Village square, museums and music

Liesing parish church is located right at the edge of the village square, which forms the center of the village. Liesing is also home to the Alpine Folk Music Academy, where many courses and events take place. The violin-making museum is housed in the attic of the Lesachtal Folk Music Academy and displays a selection of Lexer violins. The shoemaking museum is located in the neighboring shoemaker’s house. This gives you a choice of distinct cultural attractions: music offerings and two specifically named museums.

A small sign on the bridge over the stream commemorates the birthplace of the scholar Univ.-Prof. Dr. Matthias von Lexer. The village and bread festival also provides a specific date to plan around: it takes place in Liesing in early September. If you are traveling specifically for the festival, check the date in advance to make sure it fits your travel dates.

More nature experiences

The Lesachtal adventure and forest experience world is located above Liesing, near the small village of Ladstatt. It includes an interactive forest experience trail and the “Millnatzenklamm” via ferrata. The names alone distinguish the two activities: an interactive forest experience trail on the one hand and a via ferrata on the other. This can help you compare them if you want to focus on a particular nature experience.

The Lesachtal adventure pool is located at Klebas 30, 9653 Liesing. Check seasonal opening times before you travel if you are planning a visit.
