Stiegl is located on the northern shore of Lake Ossiach. The lakeshore, cycle path and church art offer different starting points for planning your trip: you can choose accommodation based on a specific location or a named cycle path, and add cultural details as a focus in their own right. The churches in Stiegl and Tschöran add another dimension with their architecture and furnishings.
Accommodation between the lakeshore and cycle path
Seecamping Hoffmann is located at Stiegl 12, right on Lake Ossiach. It offers 20 pitches and modern mobile homes with high-quality larch-wood terraces. This gives you two different types of accommodation to choose from; the terraces are a distinctive feature of the mobile homes. If you are looking for accommodation directly by the lake, this is a specific local option.
For cyclists, the Lake Ossiach Cycle Path R2 is another useful landmark: it passes right by Appartementhaus Hänsel & Gretel at Uferweg 67 in Stiegl.
Another activity is the “From Stiegl to Gerlitzen” mountain hike. It is listed as a moderately difficult route with a length of 11.3 km. The R2 passes right by the apartment house; when planning your tours, you can take the 11.3 km distance and moderate difficulty into account. The route rating is for guidance; check current trail conditions before setting out.
For a meal, there is a specific option by the lake: the lakeside terrace at Seehotel Hoffmann serves menus made with fresh, seasonal and regional ingredients. The seasonal focus is explicitly part of the offering.
Church art and architectural history
In Stiegl, St. Joseph's Church has a Baroque high altar in the form of a columned altar dating from the 17th century.
The Old Catholic Parish Church of St. Joseph (in Tratten) and its churchyard at Sankt-Josefs-Straße 20 are listed in Carinthia’s register of immovable and archaeological monuments, published on 21 June 2016. This register is not legally binding. The entry covers both the church and the churchyard.
The Protestant church in Tschöran was built in 1803 as a hall church with a recessed choir and a west tower. A hall church is characterised by a longitudinal main space; the recessed choir is set back from this space. The west tower completes the description by indicating the tower’s location at the western end of the church building.
The furnishings of the church interior in Tschöran are also described in detail: the pulpit altar was made after 1780 and originally came from the chapel of Landskron Castle. The semicircular-topped panels on the pulpit’s balustrade depict the four Evangelists and a Salvator Mundi. Salvator Mundi means “Saviour of the World”. The motifs mentioned are located on the panels of the pulpit’s balustrade.
