Simonhöhe brings together summits, hiking trails and seasonal activities, from mountain biking to winter sports. Hocheck is one of the two peaks of Simonhöhe and reaches an elevation of 1,338 m. Simonhöhe is part of the Gurktal Alps and the Nock Mountains. For your stay, you can choose your focus based on the specific routes, requirements and seasons.
Plan your hike by route length and difficulty
The route 1000-jährige Linde–Simale, rated easy, is 3.40 km long; the Paulsberg Circular Trail, also rated easy, is 4.97 km long. A longer, moderately difficult option is the Zur Schaumühle–Gall Circular Trail, which covers 7.78 km. This gives you two easy routes of different lengths and a longer tour with a higher stated difficulty rating. Route details may change; check them before setting out.
Another hiking option is the Hoch-Sankt-Paul-Weg: after passing through Hoch St. Paul, it continues to the Simonhöhe ski area. Unlike the circular trails mentioned above, the specific route is the point of reference here.
Mountain biking options and technique
When biking, it is worth considering the requirements: Simon’s Flowtrail is 2.2 km long and rated easy, but requires basic trail-riding skills. The T02 Jumping Simon bike trail is 0.6 km long, has an elevation gain of 65 metres and is rated moderate; good trail-riding and jumping skills are required. So the shorter trail is not automatically the less demanding choice. Access to the trails is seasonal, and their specifications may change.
The seasonal Simon’s children’s and practice area includes three trails for children and beginners, as well as a small Mini Kids jump line. Mountain carts on two marked downhill routes are another seasonal activity. They reach a top speed of about 30 km/h and are suitable for children aged 10 and over, adults, and active seniors. Check the age and safety rules for each season. Visitors can also explore the alpine pastures around Simonhöhe in forest buggies, all-electric golf carts; rentals are seasonal.
Winter at Simonhöhe
The family ski area includes four easy blue runs and four intermediate red runs, as well as a difficult steep slope marked red and black. A children’s and practice area complements the range of slopes; individual facilities may change. At Paulis Bärenland, children learn to ski through play and with professional instruction. The beginner facilities there also include a magic carpet about 100 m long. The facilities operate seasonally.
Ski touring is also part of the winter offering: Simonhöhe is considered a tip among ski tourers for relaxing half-day and full-day tours. As snow conditions vary by season, checking the current conditions is one of the practical things to do before setting out.
A cultural attraction nearby
The Mithras Rock is located above Lake Urban. Carved into the rock is an image of the sun god surrounded by rays; a seating area provides a place to view it. This cultural attraction adds a specific historical theme to the range of hiking, biking and winter activities.
