In Halls Gap, multi-day hikes, short walks and culture come together. The Grampians Peaks Trail passes through the town; individual activities can also be planned around specific distances and starting points. When planning, it therefore helps to decide whether you want to focus on a longer hike, a short walk or a visit connected with the park and its culture.

Multi-day hikes and trailheads

The Grampians Peaks Trail is a 164 km, 13-day hiking experience that passes through Halls Gap. The trail currently starts and ends in Halls Gap. The town is also a starting point for hikes on trails in Grampians National Park. Check route conditions before your trip.

Another specific hiking option is the three-day Bugiga and Barri Yalug 3-day Hike: on the first day, the route covers 8.9 km from Halls Gap to the Bugiga Hike-in Campground. These 8.9 km refer to the first leg of this hike; the 164 km and 13 days refer to the Grampians Peaks Trail. This makes it possible to distinguish between two differently designed hiking experiences without mixing up their distances.

Short walks and other routes

The Halls Gap Bike Path runs for 5.5 km in one direction from Ararat Rd to Brambuk. You can start the route at Delleys Bridge, in Halls Gap or at Brambuk. This gives you both a specific distance and several possible starting points.

The easy Venus Baths Loop Walk starts in the centre of Halls Gap and is 2.3 km long. It crosses a small bridge over Stony Creek and leads to the Botanic Gardens. Visitors can also reach Venus Baths on a leisurely walk through the Hall Gap Botanical Gardens. Its pools were naturally formed in the sandstone. Trail conditions can change; check them before your walk.

These figures represent different planning options: a 2.3 km loop, 5.5 km one way on the Bike Path and 8.9 km on the first day of the three-day hike. When choosing, it therefore helps to consider not just the distance but also the type of route.

Culture and park information at Brambuk

Brambuk The National Park and Cultural Centre in Halls Gap has its roots in the construction of the Brambuk Cultural Centre in 1989. The Centre was built to recognise, protect and share the cultures of the Jadawadjali and Djab Wurrung. This cultural role is as much a part of finding your way around Halls Gap as its visitor facilities.

At Brambuk, visitors can obtain topographic maps and speak with knowledgeable staff for the latest park information. A visit therefore combines cultural interpretation with practical guidance about the park. If you are planning hikes, you can also use the centre to include maps and park information in your preparations.

More experiences in and around Halls Gap

Halls Gap Adventure Golf is an 18-hole course in bushland in the heart of Gariwerd (The Grampians). The course features waterfalls and tunnels. It offers an activity that is different from hiking and walking.

Nearby is Halls Gap Zoo, 7 km from the town centre and located between Halls Gap and Pomonal. The zoo offers visitors of all ages an immersive wildlife experience. This means that, in addition to routes in town, there is also a destination in the surrounding area to visit.
