On the Arroyo Bejarano, clear waterfalls and cascades alternate with tranquil pools. In Santa María De Trassierra, trails around the Baños de Popea, municipal hiking routes and an adjacent park add to the nature theme. Two circular routes differ considerably in length: one is six kilometres long, the other 14.5 kilometres. Their difficulty ratings also provide a practical guide for planning your day.

Hiking Trails and Water Landscapes

The Baños de Popea are located in Santa María De Trassierra. A six-kilometre, accessible and easy-to-walk circular hiking trail runs around the area. Despite a few inclines, it is suitable for outdoor activities with the whole family. These details go together: the trail is considered easy to walk, but it still has inclines.

The Sendero Fluvial Arroyo Bejarano runs within the Reserva Natural Fluvial del Arroyo Bejarano, which is located in Santa María De Trassierra near Córdoba. On the stream, clear waterfalls and cascades alternate with tranquil pools. The reserve was designated in November 2015 and is notable for its ecological and scenic importance. The waterscape and designated natural area together define the theme of this riverside trail.

The Cerro del Pozo de la Nieve, a public park, lies immediately beside Santa María De Trassierra. Its paths and trails total 2,800 metres, of which more than 1,700 metres are marked and signposted. The figures therefore distinguish the entire trail network from its marked section. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check them before visiting.

The PR-A 211 Circular de Trassierra starts beside the municipal civic centre or at the main square and initially follows the Vereda de la Canchuela. The circular route is 14.5 kilometres long, has a moderate difficulty rating and is 100 per cent suitable for cycling. Along the way, Mediterranean scrubland gives way to cork oak woodland, dehesas dominated by holm oaks and a chestnut grove. This route therefore differs from the six-kilometre circular trail at the Baños de Popea both in length and in its changing landscapes.

The PR-A 342 follows a different sequence: it first passes through a cork oak dehesa with Mediterranean scrubland and then heads to the Fuente de La Marquesa. The spring's water comes from the Roman-origin Valdepuentes Aqueduct. Information about the municipal routes PR-A 211 and PR-A 342 dates from September 2010; their routes, signposting and maintenance may have changed since then. Check the current route and signposting before setting out.

Cultural Heritage and Architecture

The Iglesia de Santa María de Trassierra is recognised as a Bien de Interés Cultural and is listed in the General Catalogue of Andalusian Cultural Heritage. Its founding is dated to the 13th to 14th century. The church consists of three naves separated by pillars with pointed horseshoe arches. It also has a wood-panelled ceiling and a gabled roof covered with tiles. Alongside the nature trails, the founding date and architectural features give the cultural theme its own historical focus.

The Fuente del Elefante is also located in Santa María De Trassierra. It forms part of the historic heritage of the city of Córdoba and complements the church as another named cultural heritage site.
