Khudoyarkhan Palace is a prominent landmark in Kokand. The multi-courtyard complex, dating from the 19th century, stands on an artificial hill, covers around four hectares and has more than 100 rooms. Its courtyards, elevated location and scale give the building a distinctive architectural character and make it a striking introduction to the city’s attractions.

Palaces, mosques and other attractions in Kokand

In addition to the palace, the national tourism portal highlights Jami Mosque, the Modarikhon Mausoleum, Norbut-biya Madrasah, the Mausoleum of the Khans of Kokand and Dahma-i Shahan as important attractions. The selection therefore encompasses different sites of religious and historical heritage. If you’re planning a cultural trip to Kokand, this range offers more than a visit to a single palace as a theme.

Kokand’s cuisine and practical guidance

Kokand’s distinctive food traditions include plov made with Devzira rice, garlic and hot pepper, patir flatbread and Kokand halwa. Alongside its architecture, these specialties give the city a distinct culinary focus. By including both in your travel plans, you can experience historical attractions and local cuisine as different aspects of your stay, without combining them into a single itinerary.

For religious sites in Uzbekistan, visitors are advised to cover their shoulders, waist and legs. This guidance applies nationwide and is not a rule specific to Kokand.

Culture and landscape in Ferghana Province

Ferghana Province offers a broader regional perspective. The Fergana region lies in the south of the Ferghana Valley between the Pamir-Alai and Tian Shan mountain systems. Rishton is known as the city of masters and as one of Central Asia’s largest centers for unique glazed ceramics. The craft center in Rishton district also follows the traditional master-apprentice principle. Ceramics are thus a distinct regional focus alongside Kokand’s architecture.

Margilan brings together further cultural themes: the international silk festival Atlas Bayrami is held there annually. The Erkin Vohidov Memorial Museum displays exhibits about the life and work of the poet and writer. A craft center in Margilan has weaving workshops, an exhibition of finished products, a platform and a studio. Visitors can watch sewing and the application of dyes to fabrics there. The Pir-Siddiq Complex in Margilan includes a mausoleum, a mosque, a minaret and several dovecotes.

History and landscape are also represented in Ferghana Province. Extensive excavations in Kuva uncovered the ancient settlement of Kubo, with monuments, residential quarters and valuable finds. Shakhimardan is bordered on both sides by the mountain rivers Ak-Su and Kok-Su, which merge to form the Shakhimardan-Sai River. The Vuadil Valley is characterized by foothill landscapes and fertile orchards; the Chimghan health resort area lies in the region’s foothills and is known for its natural healing springs.
