Explore Atlántida from several perspectives: its public coastal spaces, forest heritage, and history as a seaside resort. If you are considering Atlántida as a place to stay, you can weigh these highlights according to your interests: are you more interested in public coastal views, historic houses, or summer activities? The following places show how varied this destination can be.

Coastal Spaces and Public Squares

Terraza de Atlántida is a public coastal viewpoint at Playa Mansa, designed for families, local residents, and tourists. It covers about 250 square meters and features benches, sand, grass, and street furniture made of iron and wood. The viewpoint is located on Rambla Tomás Berreta at Calle Ciudad de Montevideo and was inaugurated on December 29, 2025. Its size and design give this coastal space a tangible scale.

Plaza Artigas in the center of Atlántida offers a different focus. The square is home to a sundial donated by the Argentine Navy, which is considered the plaza’s main attraction. This gives visitors a choice between two public places with distinct features: a viewpoint at Playa Mansa and a sundial in the town center.

Tree Heritage and the History of the Seaside Resort

Some of the old plantings of pine, eucalyptus, and araucaria trees have been preserved and form part of Atlántida’s forest heritage. Alongside the coastal areas, these trees offer another landscape to discover when planning a trip. So if you choose Atlántida as a destination, its historic plantings may interest you just as much as its public squares and coastal views.

The large houses along the rambla bear witness to the origins of the seaside resort of Atlántida; since 2007, they have been subject to precautionary protection measures by the Intendencia de Canelones. Some of Atlántida’s first homes still survive today and are located along the rambla between Roger Balet and Diagonal 1 streets. Together, these houses give architecture a place in the town’s history: the large houses point to the beginnings of the seaside resort, while the early homes identify a specific stretch of the rambla.

Summer Activities and Work on the Rambla

In summer 2025, the Mar al Alcance program at Árbol de Judea in Atlántida offered voluntary physical activity and sports in the sand and water, including adapted surfing. If you would like to plan your trip around an activity like this, check the dates for your intended stay; the program season described here was summer 2025.

A construction project is also connected to the coastal area: the staircase to the beach at Calle 26 was restored as part of the work on Rambla Tomás Berreta in Atlántida. This adds another specific reference to work on the rambla alongside the public viewpoints and squares.

A Planned Place of Remembrance

As a tribute to Carlos Páez Vilaró, the Comuna Canaria decided to plan a public space and a commemorative sculpture. The decision connects honoring the artist with a project for a public space. Together with the sundial in Plaza Artigas and the houses along the rambla, this offers another cultural perspective on Atlántida: alongside historic buildings and coastal places, there is also the planned public memorial.
