A lakeside loop trail, a historic train ride and a sculpture garden that changes annually reveal three different sides of Cedar Park. Add to that extensive park offerings and an events calendar featuring sports, concerts and family shows. To start planning your trip, you can organize it around your main interest: outdoor recreation, art, railroad history or a specific event. The time required also varies; a longer train ride calls for different planning than an activity on a loop trail.
Parks and Outdoor Activities
The City of Cedar Park’s Parks and Recreation Department maintains more than 1,000 acres of parkland. A separate figure applies to Brushy Creek Lake Park: it covers 90 acres and offers both active and nature-focused recreational opportunities. These figures describe different scales—the parkland maintained by the city department, on the one hand, and a single park, on the other. At Lakeline Park, a 2.5-mile loop trail circles the lake. You can walk, jog or bike along the trail; its length and permitted uses provide a concrete guide when choosing an activity.
Kayaking options vary by type of offering. Brushy Creek Lake Park has a kayak launch at 3300 Brushy Creek Lake Rd; check before your visit whether conditions allow you to use it. At Lakeline Park, kayaks can be rented from a self-service kiosk at the pier. Because kiosk availability and operations may change, check the latest information before making plans.
Art and Seasonal Nature
The Cedar Park Sculpture Garden is next to the Cedar Park Recreation Center at 1435 Main Street in Cedar Park. The sculptures on display change annually, and the collection includes works by Texas artists. At Lakeline Park, wildflower meadows are part of the first phase of development and help improve wildlife habitat. Their appearance is shaped by the seasons. The two features also differ in their timing: the sculptures change annually, while the wildflowers appear seasonally.
Historic Train Ride
The Bertram Flyer’s 3.5-hour ride starts at the Cedar Park Depot and travels through the Texas Hill Country. A historic diesel locomotive pulls restored historic railcars dating from the 1930s to the 1950s. Because of its duration, the ride is a longer activity in its own right. Factor it into your schedule rather than treating it as a brief stop.
Events at the H-E-B Center
The H-E-B Center at Cedar Park hosts more than 150 events per year, including sporting events, concerts and family shows. It is currently the home venue for the Texas Stars, the AHL team of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, and the Austin Spurs, the NBA G League team of the San Antonio Spurs. Sports, music and family shows offer different reasons to visit; the specific event date is what matters for your plans. Team affiliations can change. If a game is the reason for your trip, check the current events calendar beforehand.
