A water park with a remarkable history, an accessible playground, and trails with varied route profiles give North Richland Hills plenty of options for outings. As you plan your trip, you can choose from water fun, play, art, golf, a makerspace, and outdoor trails. With the trails in particular, their lengths, surfaces, and connections help distinguish them from one another.
Water, Play, and Changing Art
NRH2O Family Water Park was the first municipal water park in Texas and one of the first in the country. Adventure World Playground has a different focus: it is fully accessible and offers shaded, forest-themed play structures for children of all abilities. East of the playground, the Adventure World Art Trail runs along the boardwalk. Its exhibits change periodically, making the art trail and playground two distinct features of this area.
Trails for Different Needs
Fossil Creek Park has unpaved mountain biking trails in a riparian forest preserve. They cover about five miles and are suitable for beginners as well as intermediate riders. Helmets are required on these trails. The southwest part of the park also has a bike playground and a pump track. The length, terrain, and two additional cycling features give a concrete picture of the different options in the park.
The named trails also differ in length and connections. The North Electric Trail is 2 miles long and connects to the 2.8-mile Walker’s Creek Trail. The Calloway Branch Trail stretches for 5.2 miles and includes both off-road and roadside sections. It connects to the John Barfield Trail and the Cotton Belt Trail. When comparing routes, you can take into account both their lengths and the connections and roadside sections specifically noted.
Cross Timbers Park combines two more offerings: a 9-hole disc golf course and paved and unpaved hiking and biking trails. Their varied surfaces set these trails apart from the unpaved mountain biking trails at Fossil Creek Park. The parks therefore feature different activities, from disc golf to biking on unpaved terrain.
Art, Golf, and Making Things Together
Two sculptures at the NRH Centre showcase different materials and forms. Flower Log is made entirely of reclaimed steel parts joined by arc welding. Passion Flower is a 15-foot-tall kinetic sculpture made of stainless steel. Both works offer an artistic focus that clearly differs from the activities in the parks and on the trails.
Iron Horse Golf Course is set in the hilly terrain of North Richland Hills. The course was originally designed by Dick Phelps and opened in 1988. Its landscape and origins give it a distinct profile alongside the city’s play and walking options.
The Maker Spot is a 4,500-square-foot makerspace on the second floor of the North Richland Hills Library. As a community workspace, it enables library cardholders to create, explore, collaborate, and develop new ideas. Use is therefore tied to a library card. For your planning, the choices are clear: you can focus on water and play, trails and parks, art and history, or making things together.
