At Lake Rogers in Creedmoor, Lake Rogers Park offers everything from fishing and paddling to picnicking. During operating hours, aquacycles, jon boats, and NuCanoes are available to rent by the hour. Lake Rogers has a renewed fishing pier and four fishing platforms; their condition may change due to maintenance work. You can borrow a fishing rod free of charge during business hours at Lake Rogers or the Creedmoor Community Center. Before your trip, check whether rentals and the loaner fishing rod program are available on your visit date.
Forest Trails and Outdoor Activities
Ledge Creek Forest Conservation Area offers five miles of hiking and walking trails rated easy to moderate. They pass fields slated for reforestation, wildflower meadows and managed forests, as well as hardwood forests on the slopes above Ledge Creek. Picnic tables are available at both trailheads, so you can take a break at the start or end of your walk.
Granville Athletic Park has a different focus: The 80-acre park is designed for outdoor activities and features paved walking trails and an 18-hole disc golf course. An outdoor amphitheater hosts special performances. This contrasts the walking trails and scenery of Ledge Creek Forest Conservation Area with the combination of paved trails, disc golf, and a performance venue at Athletic Park.
Architecture and History in Oxford and the County
Oxford’s two historic districts showcase a mix of Greek Revival, Italianate, Victorian, and Queen Anne architecture, much of it dating from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The permanent Curt Tillotson Train Exhibit is located in Harris Exhibit Hall; exhibit details may change. Granville County Historical Society Museum is located in the old county jail and comprises two buildings.
Oliver-Morton Farm is also historically significant as representative of rural life in Granville County before the Civil War and during the postwar Bright Leaf tobacco era. Together, these examples offer different perspectives on the past—from the architecture of two districts and a museum in a former jail to the importance of rural life in two historical periods.
