Queensbury offers several distinct ways to spend time outdoors: trails through wetlands, views of the Hudson River, mountain bike trails, and an outdoor pool. You can sort the options by landscape and activity. For the trails, length, proximity to waterways, and connections between named areas provide different points of comparison. Hudson Pointe combines marked trails with river views; cycling and swimming each offer their own focus.

Wetland Trails and Potter’s Woods

The Rush Pond Trail is 2.6 miles long and passes through the wetlands of Rush Pond. It connects the Gurney Lane Recreation Area, residential areas along the Aviation Road corridor, and the trail network of the Queensbury School Campus. In addition to the wetlands, it also links three clearly named areas. The trail includes three hand-built bridges; the largest offers views of the wetlands and life in the stream. Those looking to consider trail length, scenery, and the route between the named areas together will find several specific points to keep in mind.

The Halfway Brook Trail is 1.2 miles long and runs through the City of Glens Falls watershed, known locally as “Potter’s Woods.” The trail passes through sections of a managed tree farm and wetlands with diverse wildlife; it also crosses a hand-built bridge over Halfway Brook. An agreement between the City of Glens Falls and the Town of Queensbury allows public access to the trail for passive recreation.

At 2.6 miles compared with 1.2 miles, the Rush Pond Trail is a little more than twice as long as the Halfway Brook Trail. The two trails also differ in their connections, bridges, and the landscape features named for each.

River Views and Mountain Bike Trails

Hudson Pointe Nature Preserve offers a different landscape focus: the 83-acre preserve has marked trails and views of the Hudson River. Comparing river views with the wetlands and stream scenery of the two trails lets you choose nature destinations by landscape rather than length alone. Marked trails are a feature of Hudson Pointe, while the bridges and routes of Rush Pond and Halfway Brook are described in particularly specific terms.

For cyclists, Gurney Lane Mountain Bike Park is a separate option, offering more than 13 miles of singletrack and doubletrack mountain bike trails. The focus here is a dedicated trail offering, rather than a comparison of the shorter trail lengths of the two hiking trails. The trail length and the types of trails named make the park a clear alternative when cycling is the priority.

An Outdoor Pool as Another Focus

Another outdoor option is the 6,200-square-foot outdoor pool at Gurney Lane Recreation Area. It includes a 1-meter diving well and a slide. This adds a pool option to the trails, river views, and cycling routes. If you sort your options by activity, you can consider the pool as a separate focus alongside the trails and mountain bike park.
