The Warren County Bikeway brings two very different uses together on the same trail: the 9.4-mile paved multi-use trail is designated for cycling, walking and running. From December through March, it is also open as a designated snowmobile route. Several kiosks along the trail offer maps of the area and point out numerous places of interest; historical markers refer to bygone times and events. Here, exercise, navigation and history go hand in hand.
As trail conditions and regulations for sharing the road with traffic can change, check them before setting out.
Trails and Seasons
Ski Bowl Park offers a 16-mile network for hiking and cycling in summer and fall. The Nordic Center at Ski Bowl has a 4-km network of professionally groomed cross-country ski trails with snowmaking and lighting. This brings different seasons into focus: hiking and cycling in summer and fall, and cross-country skiing during seasonal winter operations. Winter operations depend on seasonal conditions; trail conditions and access may also vary by season.
Water, Rock and Marked Trails
In the Lake George Wild Forest, miles of marked trails lead to natural attractions such as Black Mountain, Shelving Rock and Prospect Mountain. Paddling is another option: it is permitted on all waters within the Lake George Wild Forest.
Natural Stone Bridge & Caves has more than 14 miles of hiking trails along the river, through depressions and over rock ledges, as well as routes to two mountain summits. A nature trail includes the Sawmill Site Waterfalls, Artists’ Gorge and distinctive potholes. Trail access may vary by season. The Stone Bridge at Natural Stone Bridge & Caves is the largest entrance to a marble cavern in the eastern United States and continues to be shaped by Trout Brook.
History to Experience and Hear
At Fort William Henry, visitors experience life in a British fort in the 1750s. Demonstrations with flintlock muskets and cannons are offered there and may depend on the seasonal program. Admission and operating days are seasonal.
Founded in 1817, the Lake George Steamboat Company describes its operations on Lake George as spanning more than 200 years. It offers cruises aboard the Minne Ha Ha, the MV Mohican II and the Lac du Saint Sacrement. Schedules are seasonal and may change; check the schedule if you are planning a trip.
The visitor center at the Warren County Fish Hatchery offers a self-guided tour and information about fish stocking efforts. At the display pond, you can see adult trout up close.
