Lexington combines community recreation facilities with a cinema, regional history and a nearby lake. In town, you’ll find aquatic and sports facilities, a park, an interactive museum and a historic cinema; Johnson Lake is about ten miles to the south. This gives you a choice of sports and water activities, cultural history, and things to do at the lake as you plan your trip.

Sports and Recreation

The Lexington Family Aquatic Center includes a pool with a zero-entry area and a water slide, an Olympic-style pool, and a splash pool. The zero-entry area and slide are part of the same pool; the other two pools are separate areas. Seasonal operating hours may change. Before your trip, check the hours that apply to your visit.

The Lexington Fieldhouse is a 27,000-square-foot indoor sports facility with artificial turf, used for baseball, soccer, softball, tennis and other sports. The Lexington Racquet Center has four tennis courts and eight indoor pickleball courts. The two facilities offer different options: a multipurpose indoor facility with artificial turf on one hand, and dedicated tennis and pickleball courts on the other.

Plum Creek Park features a pond, a trail, a large playground, a park shelter, sand volleyball courts and outdoor tennis courts. Unlike the indoor pickleball courts at the Racquet Center, the tennis courts at the park are explicitly outdoors. Along with its pond and trail, the park offers a different focus from the sports facilities.

Hands-on Experiences and Culture

At the Heartland Museum of Military Vehicles, the experience is explicitly hands-on: visitors can look at and touch the vehicles, and even sit inside them. This makes for a different visit from simply viewing vehicles. The Dawson County Historical Society & Museum has a different focus, preserving the unique history and culture of Dawson County.

The Majestic Theatre is a historic, volunteer-operated cinema in downtown Lexington. It screens second-run movies at discounted prices. Wheelchair-accessible seating is available. Together, the cinema, vehicle museum and Dawson County Historical Society & Museum represent a range of cultural subjects, from film and military vehicles to the history of the county.

Events and Nearby Attractions

The Lexington Racquet Center Tennis Tournament includes junior and adult doubles, as well as mixed doubles. It is scheduled for late January or February. If you’d like to plan your trip around the tournament, check the exact event date before making plans.

Mac's Creek Winery & Brewery offers a 0.5-mile Sustainability Trail. The trail adds a distinct type of recreational activity to the pools, courts and facilities. Johnson Lake is about 10 miles south of Lexington and offers camping, fishing and water sports. While pools are the main focus at the Aquatic Center, the lake offers camping and activities on the water.
