The Satilla River and its landscape

The Satilla River Water Trail gives Pierce County a distinctive river perspective. The trail is about 140 miles long and runs downstream from Jamestown to Woodbine. The section of the Satilla River Water Trail west of the GA-121 Landing in Pierce County passes through a forest of cypress trees and slender pines. This gives you a sense of the route not only in its full length, but also through a specific local landscape. Water levels and navigability vary by season; take the time of year into account when planning. Access to the Satilla River Water Trail in Pierce County is at the Hwy. 121 Landing, where parking is permitted. Check access and parking availability before you arrive.

The Alabaha River also runs through Pierce County and offers opportunities for fishing and outdoor activities. For a land-based way to explore, Pierce County offers another perspective: scenic drives along its country roads. The rural surroundings, farmland and small-town atmosphere shape the character of the county. The Little Satilla Wildlife Management Area covers 17,810 acres and features a variety of landscapes. Together, these places and impressions convey different aspects of a rural region without needing to combine them into a single route.

Wine and local agriculture

Bell Farms Rabbiteye Winery is located on a farm in Bristol, in Pierce County. For three generations, Bell Farms has grown and harvested rabbiteye blueberries; several blueberry varieties are used to make the wine. The connection between agriculture and wine is also reflected in what Rabbiteye Winery offers: wine tastings and wine sales, tours of the winery and packing house, and bookings for small events. Reservations are required for wine tastings. Visitors interested in the production process and its products can get to know different sides of the operation—from growing the berries to making the wine.
