In Seymourʼs, the activities described range from a three-hour boat tour to full-day fishing charters and island explorations. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, these different time commitments can help you plan your excursion days.
Boat Tours and Time on the Water
The five-hour Sandy Cay Iguana Tour starts at the resort beach and heads to Sandy Cay, the natural habitat of the rare rock iguanas. The Snorkeling & Nature Cruise lasts three hours. Equipment includes snorkeling gear and an experienced, certified tour guide; along the way, you may see fish, rays, sea turtles, and soft and hard coral reefs.
The two excursions differ in both duration and focus: the Sandy Cay Tour is dedicated to rock iguanas, while the cruise centers on snorkeling and marine life. Bone fishing is another kind of time commitment when planning your day: the fishing charter is offered as a half-day or full-day tour with an experienced guide.
Fishing and Island Exploration
For bone fishing, anglers cast in crystal-clear water 20 to 61 centimeters deep, targeting visible schools of bonefish. Deep-sea fishing focuses on species including white and blue marlin, wahoo, kingfish, tuna, shark, dorado and sailfish. Reef fishing, by contrast, explores coral and rocky reefs from a comfortable boat; species caught there include Nassau groupers, yellowtail snapper and barracuda.
A five-hour Long Island Tour is also offered by Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort in Seymourʼs. It can be guided or self-guided and follows the historic Queenʼs Highway to local artisans, island gathering spots and natural attractions. This offers different formats to choose from when planning your day: a short cruise, a longer excursion, or a fishing charter that takes half a day or a full day.
Beaches and More to See on Long Island
Cape Santa Maria Beach is about four miles long, with brilliant white sand. The wider Long Island travel area also has a striking contrast between its coasts: the east coast faces the Atlantic and features dramatic cliffs and caves. On the sheltered west side, calm sandy beaches slope gently into the Bahama Bank and offer good swimming conditions.
Long Island also offers points of interest for culture and history. The Long Island Museum presents the island’s history, culture and customs; its exhibits include straw crafts, shells, a history mural, Rake n. Scrape instruments and Junkanoo costumes. Columbus Point is at the northern tip of Long Island. The coastline there marks the place where Christopher Columbus came ashore on the island; a tall monument stands on the hill, with views of the surrounding area.
Meals can also be worked into your day’s plans: Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort & Club House serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
