Dorf is in the wine-growing region of the Canton of Zurich. Several different points of interest can help you plan your trip: the church and its historical traces, 100 years of radio history, and time outdoors on the Schwerzenberg. Schloss Goldenberg Golf Club also welcomes guests. The train connections are seven minutes from Dorf by postbus. This lets you factor culture, leisure and travel into your choice of location.

Church and Local History

Dorf Church preserves partially exposed and supplemented foundations of a Romanesque chapel, which were examined during excavations in 1966. A year later, in 1967, the church was renovated and adorned with stained-glass windows by Winterthur artist Heinrich Bruppacher. The church thus brings together two distinct historical traces: the older chapel and the artistic design from the 20th century.

The church accounts for Dorf from 1751 to 1794 also offer a glimpse into everyday community life. They include, among other things, income and expenses for building maintenance, Communion and support for people in need. Historical records also cover the BrĂĽtschenhof and Salenhof farms in Dorf, as well as their former ownership and farming arrangements. Together, these subjects broaden the view from church buildings to earlier administrative and ownership arrangements.

Radio Museum and Schloss Goldenberg

The Dorf Radio Museum presents 100 years of radio history, spanning from the simplest radio receiver to a designer music system from the 1990s. This broad time span provides a thread tracing the change from radio reception to a purpose-designed music device. Changing exhibitions each year explore other topics relating to radio and listening to music, each with a different focus.

Schloss Goldenberg adds another historical layer. The base of the tower dates from the 13th century. On 15 September 1559, the castle was almost completely destroyed by fire; apparently, only the lower part of the tower survived. The medieval tower base thus stands in contrast to a turning point in the 16th century, while the survival of the lower part of the tower remains explicitly uncertain.

Time Outdoors and Golf

The barbecue area on the Schwerzenberg is above the vineyard slope and offers views of Dorf. You can reach it on foot from the edge of the village in no more than eight to ten minutes. Its short walking time from the edge of the village makes the barbecue area a practical option for spending time outdoors. This estimate refers to the walk from the edge of the village, not travel by public transport.

Schloss Goldenberg Golf Club welcomes guests. The 18-hole golf course, designed by Kurt Rossknecht, was handed over to members in June 1997. Short-notice rounds of golf are usually possible; guest packages and availability may change. If you plan to play golf, check in advance whether it is possible. A walking time is given for the barbecue area, while the golf club depends on short-notice availability—two different points to consider when planning.

Getting Here and Finding Accommodation

From Dorf, you can reach the railway lines towards Winterthur (Zurich) or Schaffhausen by postbus in seven minutes; the routes serve Henggart and Andelfingen stations. These seven minutes refer to the postbus leg. By contrast, the maximum of eight to ten minutes to the barbecue area refers to the walk from the edge of the village. Plan for these separately and check the timetable for your travel date, as connections may change. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Dorf, you can consider the train connection alongside your cultural and leisure interests as a factor in choosing a location.
