Napoleonturm near Hohenrain, above Wäldi, provides a concrete starting point for planning a stay in Thurgau. The Napoleonturm circular trail leads from Hotel Golfpanorama to the tower and back. There are also prehistoric traces on Hohenrain, the history of Wäldi church and leisure activities at Connyland. This lets you consider walking time, culture and other activities as separate priorities, rather than trying to fit everything into a single day’s itinerary.

Napoleonturm and the circular trail

Napoleonturm is located near the hamlet of Hohenrain, above Wäldi in the canton of Thurgau. Visitor information dated 26 August 2026 lists daily opening hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check these times again before your trip.

The circular trail is 10 kilometres long and takes about 2.5 hours. It leads from Hotel Golfpanorama to Napoleonturm and back. The circular hike can also be started at the car park in front of the tower; it is signposted in both directions. This gives you a clear route length and an approximate duration for planning. Treat the 2.5 hours as a timeframe for the circular hike, and allow extra time for breaks and a visit to the tower, at your own pace.

Hohenrain and the history of Wäldi

During the Bronze Age and later the Hallstatt period, Hohenrain was home to one of the largest settlements in the northern Alpine foothills. The settlement was inhabited from around 1500 to 1300 BC during the Middle Bronze Age. Excavations at Hohenrain yielded 33,000 ceramic fragments with a total weight of 550 kilograms.

A much later period is represented by Wäldi church: it was built in 1723 for churchgoers from Wäldi and Kreuzstrasse. This comparison places the settlement history of Hohenrain far earlier than the history of the church. Those interested in local history will therefore find two distinct points of reference in time, without conflating them into a single period.

Connyland and golf

Connyland is home to the “Cobra” roller coaster, and visitors can also visit the sea lion arena. A 27-hole golf course with a clubhouse restaurant borders Connyland. Its driving range is open year-round and accessible to everyone. This means there are different leisure interests to choose from: a roller coaster and arena on the one hand, and a golf course with a publicly accessible driving range on the other. You can decide separately which of these you want to shape your stay when planning your day.

Plan your journey and stay

PostBus services connect Wäldi with Kreuzlingen, Weinfelden and Frauenfeld. Check the timetable for your chosen travel date. If travelling by car, another distinction is important: the A7 between Winterthur and Kreuzlingen passes through the municipality of Wäldi, but Wäldi does not have its own motorway exit. Take the motorway route and the exit location into account separately when planning your journey.
