A cultural trail of just under four kilometres, Baroque architectural history and opportunities to swim in Lake Constance give you several ways to plan a trip to Münsterlingen. If you would like to combine culture with time by the water, you can consider the full circuit, individual church sites and swimming facilities as separate highlights.

The cultural trail as a circular walk

The Münsterlingen Cultural Trail is an information trail just under four kilometres long, with 22 stops. They cover scientific, historical and economic topics relating to the Lake Constance region. Allow about two hours to complete the full circuit on foot. This time estimate applies to the entire walk, not just one section.

The cultural trail starts at the Münsterlingen Spital stop. The starting point is about a two-minute walk from the railway station. As timetables or access to the station may change, check the connection for your travel day.

Monastery church and chapel paintings

The former Münsterlingen monastery church was built from 1711 to 1716 and consecrated in 1727. The High Baroque building was designed by master builder and architect Franz Beer from the Bregenzerwald. The church also has a grille dating from 1736, made by the Constance blacksmith Jakob Hoffner.

The cultural trail passes St. Leonard’s Chapel in the district of Landschlacht. The chapel contains a Gothic Passion cycle created after 1300 and described as being in the “floating style”. The Leonard cycle was completed in 1432. The cultural sites thus bring together different periods: medieval chapel paintings and the 18th-century construction history of the former monastery church.

The Protestant church in Scherzingen also offers a distinctive perspective on regional church history. It is considered the first place of worship in Thurgau built for Protestants. In 1886, a tall Neo-Gothic spire with a peal of four bells was added to its west side.

Walks and swimming facilities

The lakeside path in Münsterlingen is well suited to walks. You can swim in Lake Constance at the Münsterlingen lido. Swimming conditions on site may change; take this into account when planning and check the situation before your visit.

The Scherzingen bathing area has a children’s playground with a pirate ship as well as a beach volleyball court. Barbecues are permitted at the official fire pits. If you would like to include these facilities in your plans, this designated bathing area offers play, exercise and an opportunity to barbecue.

The Münsterlingen swimming pool and playground also have the pirate ship “Starfish”. Children can balance, climb and slide on it. This play facility is distinct from the pirate ship at the Scherzingen bathing area; each has its own name and features.

Guided tours and farm-gate sales

Group tours offered as part of the “Cultural and Nature Tours” programme can be booked through the Thurgau Tourism online portal or directly with the project team. Confirm the booking options before planning your group tour.

Feldhof sells freshly harvested vegetables directly from its farm in Münsterlingen-Scherzingen. Check sales arrangements and opening hours before visiting. This lets you add a specific farm-gate purchase to your stay without needing to set a fixed schedule.
