On the shores of Lake Constance, among parkland, public art and museums, Kreuzlingen reveals its many sides on short discovery tours. Together with the neighbouring German city of Konstanz, Kreuzlingen forms part of the Lake Constance urban area. You can plan your visit around different themes: time by the lake, a walk with art and an audio guide, or a look at the history of the city and region.

Seeburgpark and Lake Constance

Seeburgpark stretches from Kreuzlingen harbour around Seeburg Castle and along the shores of Lake Constance. It is 2.5 kilometres long and lies directly on the Lake Constance cycling route between Kreuzlingen and Romanshorn. This brings a lakeside landscape and a long-distance cycling route together in the park. Seeburg Castle was built in 1598 and, after its restoration, served as a summer residence for the abbots of Kreuzlingen.

The park includes a small garden with medicinal and culinary herbs that is open to the public. The plants are arranged in numerous beds according to their properties. This gives the garden a different focus from the lakeside paths: here, the emphasis is on the thematic arrangement of the plants.

The playground also offers a range of activities, including a zip line, climbing equipment, a bocce court, a football field and a short barefoot trail. The Kreuzlingen animal park is home to old domestic animal breeds that are at risk of extinction. Visitors can feed and pet the goats, sheep and donkeys. The park’s activities thus range from exercise and play to encounters with animals.

Walks and art in public spaces

Visitors who want to explore Kreuzlingen on foot can choose from different types of walks. An audio-guided walk starts at the Lake Museum, follows the lakeshore and returns to the starting point after about 60 minutes. At 17 stops, it shares poetic, entertaining and informative stories about towering trees that are up to 120 years old. The approximate duration and circular route provide practical guidance for planning your time.

The art trails offer a different focus: they let you take an independent tour of art objects in Kreuzlingen’s public spaces. Information is available as text, images and downloadable audio files, so you can decide for yourself which details suit your walk. The stream trails also offer their own perspective on the city. These easy routes bring ecological restoration and flood protection to life.

The children’s art trail is a creative discovery tour of Kreuzlingen for children and interested adults. It includes eight discovery stations, each with a creative activity. This sets it apart from the art trails, where artworks in public spaces shape the city tour.

Museums and cultural history

The Rosenegg Museum is housed in a Rococo palace built around 1785 by the Bächler family of wine merchants. Its former wine cellar houses the exhibition “Here and There” about the Swiss-German border. The building and exhibition thus connect the architectural history of the house with the cross-border history of the region.

The Lake Museum occupies the rooms of the former Augustinian granary, built in 1680, and has 1,500 square metres of exhibition space. The objects on display include items from the steamship Jura, which sank in 1864. The museum thus presents the history of the ship alongside that of the historic building.

Another cultural venue is Zollplatz, by the former Kreuzlingen Gate. The cities of Kreuzlingen and Konstanz regularly hold exhibitions and cultural events there. Together with the Rosenegg Museum and the Lake Museum, it offers a range of perspectives on the city’s history: through a palace, a former granary, the border and the cooperation between the two cities.
