Around 35 kilometres of walking and hiking trails, four castles and Wartegg Park give Rorschacherberg a variety of attractions. The town lies on the hillside above Rorschach and stretches east of Rorschach to Lake Constance. When planning your visit, you can focus on a tour, cultural history or the park. The Seebleiche and Sandbüchel stops of the Rorschach–Heiden railway are in Rorschacherberg. Check the current timetable for a specific journey.

Trails, views and outdoor spots

The Castle Circular Trail opened in 2016 and takes 2ÂĽ hours. Actual walking time may vary depending on conditions; check the current route information before setting out, too. The trail can be travelled on foot, by bicycle or with a pushchair. This means you can plan the circuit using different modes of travel, while the stated duration gives you an initial idea of how much time to allow.

The Seeblick bench trail offers something different: 18 spots with distinctive seating areas are located along the hiking trail. They offer views across Lake Constance and the neighbouring countries; how far you can see depends on the weather. There are fire pits at spots 8, 9 and 14. If you plan to use them, check the condition of the facilities beforehand, as individual amenities may be changed or undergoing maintenance.

The Wannenbach Forest Adventure Area also has facilities for spending time outdoors: a large fire pit with a grill, as well as a shelter with a table and bench. This makes it different from the seating spots along the Seeblick bench trail. When choosing between them, you can decide whether views and places to sit along the hiking trail or a fire pit with shelter are more important to you.

Castles and their history

Rorschacherberg is home to the castles of St. Anna, Wartensee, Wartegg and Wiggen. The history of St. Anna Castle dates back to the 12th century; Wiggen Castle was built in 1573. Both castles are privately owned and not open to the public. Keep this in mind when planning: do not include St. Anna Castle or Wiggen Castle as publicly accessible visitor attractions.

Wartegg Castle combines a historic estate with a current cultural and concert programme. If you are planning to visit for an event, check the dates in advance. The restaurant at Wartegg Castle serves organic-certified food from its own castle garden. Menus and services may change, so base your specific plans on the current offering.

Wartegg Park and Hörnlibuck

Wartegg Park is a nationally significant garden heritage site covering around 130,000 square metres. Shady waterways and secluded clearings are among its described landscape features. On guided tours, knowledgeable members of the association accompany visitors through the English landscape park and explain the castle’s historical background and the park’s garden architecture. It is worth checking tour dates and booking options in advance. A guided tour focuses both on the history of Wartegg Castle and on the design of the park.

For a seasonal outing, consider the Hörnlibuck bathing area. It has a lake, a water play feature, a raft and a large sunbathing lawn. As the facility is seasonal, check the current conditions before your visit. This lets you choose what to do in Rorschacherberg based on your interests: a tour can structure your day, Wartegg Park focuses on garden architecture and history, and Hörnlibuck offers a seasonal alternative by the lake.
