At the Attisholz site, Riedholz brings together industrial history and a range of activities: a guided tour, nine-hole urban golf and a graffiti workshop. There are also protected buildings, a hiking route that reaches the town, and a landscape stretching from the Aare to the wooded ridge of the Verenakette. This means there is no single set programme for your stay, but rather a choice based on your interests: Would you like to learn more about the site, get active yourself, or explore Riedholz through its landscape and trails?
Attisholz site: guided tour, urban golf and graffiti
The guided tour of the Attisholz site covers its industrial past, its current interim use and the plans for the owners Halter AG’s Vision 2045. It also offers insights into various industrial spaces that are otherwise closed to the public. The site’s history, present-day use and future planning come together as a single theme.
The urban golf course offers a different way to experience the site: its nine holes have stations that lead from the boulevard down to the Aare. The holes are located on publicly accessible land, and each team is accompanied by a guide from UP! Event. Thus, the guided tour focuses on the site’s development and use, while golf centres on the nine stations and the guide’s company.
The graffiti workshop focuses on a third area. After a brief introduction to using spray cans, participants work in groups: they create either their own image or a given design. If you are choosing between the activities, the formats are clearly distinct: guided insights, a course with an accompanying guide, or collaborative art-making.
Protected buildings in Riedholz
The built heritage includes two protected structures: the administration building at Attisholzstrasse 10 and the acid tower on the factory site. The administration building can be identified by its address, and the acid tower by its location on the factory site. This distinguishes the two structures as individual points of interest alongside the guided tour of the Attisholz site. Together, they also add a built-heritage dimension to Riedholz’s cultural attractions.
Location between the Aare and the Verenakette
Riedholz is a municipality in the canton of Solothurn and belongs to the Lebern district. It is located in the Unterleberberg region, in the Solothurn Plateau and at the southern foothills of the Jura. Its territory extends from the Aare across a wooded moraine ridge to the Riedholz terrace and the wooded ridge of the Verenakette. The geographical description therefore includes several types of landscape within the municipality: river, moraine ridge, terrace and wooded ridge.
Land-use figures also offer a snapshot of the municipality at a specific point in time. In 1997, forests and wooded areas accounted for 40 per cent of the land, and agriculture for 38 per cent. In those figures from the time, forests and wooded areas narrowly exceeded agricultural land. Together with its geographical range, this places Riedholz both in the regional context of the southern Jura foothills and within its more varied landscape.
Hiking route and fire pits
The Solothurn–Niederwil loop hiking route reaches Riedholz after crossing the Gumme near the old Oele in Niederwil and making a short climb. This gives you a specific sequence to follow when planning; check the current route conditions before setting out. The route and the fire pits offer different ways to spend time outdoors: walking the trail or grilling at a fixed location.
Two fire pits in the outdoor area of the Waldhaus are freely available for grilling. This is a practical option alongside the guided and hands-on activities at the Attisholz site. For your stay, you can therefore first decide whether to focus on the site’s activities, the hiking route or grilling; each offers a different emphasis, without prescribing a shared day programme.
