Ennetbürgen is in the canton of Nidwalden on Lake Lucerne, between the shore and the foot of Mount Bürgenstock. The Nasentour links sections of lakeshore with Untere Nas, Rappersfluh and St. Jost Chapel. There is also a nature forest reserve, cultural trails and activities on the water. You can therefore focus your stay on hiking, history or individual experiences by the lake. Ennetbürgen can be reached by bus from Stans; check the current timetable before your trip.

Hike to lakeside spots and the chapel

The Nasentour runs from Buochs along the lakeshore via Aawasseregg to Ennetbürgen. It continues to Untere Nas, Rappersfluh and St. Jost Chapel. Another hike starts at the post square in Ennetbürgen: from the boat landing, a hiking trail leads to the chapel, which is an early stop along the way. The two route descriptions use different landmarks—the Nasentour follows a series of named places, while the chapel is the main early stop on the second hike.

St. Jost is the municipality’s oldest building. The first chapel there was built around 1340; in 1346, Pope Clement VI granted the pilgrimage site an indulgence. The cliffside path is passable along its entire length (as of 26 August 2026). Check the conditions again before setting out on your hike.

The natural environment of Untere Nas

In the Untere Nas nature forest reserve, the forest will be left unused for 50 years so it can develop and decay naturally. The area includes 17 rare forest communities of cantonal, national or European significance. Deadwood and cavity trees are among the habitats described, as are rare and protected plants, butterflies, amphibians, reptiles, dragonflies, saproxylic beetles and endangered birds. The warm lakeside location favours rare animal species such as dragonflies, grass snakes and common toads. A visit therefore offers a look not only at individual species, but also at forest structures and their diverse habitats.

Cultural trails and village activities

The Waldstätterweg is a cultural trail steeped in history that circles all the arms of Lake Lucerne. The digital smarTrail Seemeile experience trail runs between Buochs and Ennetbürgen, offering insights into the history, culture and life of the lake. Village tours on changing themes take place on various Friday evenings in Buochs and Ennetbürgen; they cover history, food and culture. Check the dates in advance.

Around 40 sculptures by artists from Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands are currently on display in the Ennetbürgen sculpture park; the number and selection may change. Public and private guided tours are available. Check their availability and booking options before your visit.

Activities on Lake Lucerne

The Seemeile between Buochs and Ennetbürgen offers activities on or in Lake Lucerne, including wakeboarding, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding. Waterbike excursions include a short briefing, a life jacket and a basket. Waterbikes are available as a standard bike, a recumbent bike or a tandem. The activity is based at Seestrasse 12 in Ennetbürgen; the bike is transported to Seeplätzli, ready for departure.

Seeplätzli playground has modern and tried-and-tested play equipment as well as a small bathing beach. On warm summer days, it offers an easy way into the water. Urban golf is played in Buochs and Ennetbürgen. Kinospektakel is a recurring open-air cinema at Buochs-Ennetbürgen lido; its 30th edition took place from 24 June to 11 July 2026. If you plan to attend a future edition, check the event dates.
