A circular trail through the forest, well-maintained wooden houses and sweeping views across the Schanfigg Valley reveal different sides of Tschiertschen. There are also hiking and mountain biking trails, seasonal activities and historic sites. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus more on outdoor activities, village history or an offering suited to the season.

Village Life and Mountain Scenery

Tschiertschen lies in the mountains of Schanfigg and is considered an authentic Walser village in the region. A walk through the village reveals well-maintained wooden houses, while the location also offers sweeping views across the Schanfigg Valley. The peaceful mountain scenery is away from large crowds. Places to stop for refreshments include Ochsenalp, Weisshorn and Hörnlihütte.

A total of 70 kilometres of hiking trails run around Tschiertschen. Routes connect the area with places including Arosa, Lenzerheide and Churwalden, as well as with mountain peaks. The hiking options therefore extend beyond a stroll around the village. If you are planning a specific hike, take seasonal conditions into account.

Hiking Trails and Activities

The FĂĽxliweg is a circular trail through the forest of Tschiertschen. It features fourteen varied stations, including a water play area, a barefoot path and a chime. The trail starts at the forestry depot at the edge of the village. This makes it easy to distinguish a clearly defined circular walk from the longer hiking routes around the area.

There are also numerous routes for mountain bikers. One example is the route from Jochalp to Hühnerköpfe. In winter, numerous snowshoe trails around Tschiertschen lead through deep snow-covered forests and winter scenery. Availability may vary depending on conditions.

Another seasonal option is scooter biking: a downhill ride leads from the Hühnerköpfe mountain restaurant to the village. Scooters can be rented at Berghaus Hühnerköpfe; both the activity and rentals are seasonal. For activities in the snow, the Tschiertschen natural ice rink offers opportunities for ice skating, ice hockey and curling. Skates can be rented directly at the natural ice rink. Opening and rental availability are seasonal.

Below the Waldstafel mountain station, Tschiertschen’s treehouse is located in a larch tree. It offers views of Schanfigg. Check local information about the facilities before your visit.

Historic Sites in the Village

Tschiertschen Church is part of the historic village centre and dates from the 14th century. It houses one of the last and also one of the largest so-called Toggenburg house organs. The wall paintings also offer a glimpse into the building’s history: they date from the 15th century and were uncovered during renovation work in 2012.

The Alti Sagi adds another chapter to the village’s history. The historic sawmill was built in 1920 and renovated in 1989. Tours can be arranged on request for groups of five or more. If you plan to visit, bear in mind that a visit cannot be assumed without making a request in advance.

Local Products and Finding Accommodation

The GĂĽdahof farm shop in Tschiertschen offers Alpine cheese from Alp Farur, other Alpine cheese, Alpine butter, fresh and cured meat specialities, as well as baked goods, honey, syrup and jams. The product selection may change.

This way, your choice of destination remains connected to your travel interests.
