The Hochwang biking route starts and ends in Sankt Peter. For trip planning, various starting points and seasons are also important: the summer trail to Hochwang Hut leads from Fatschél via Triemel, while the shuttle to the Hochwang ski area operates during the winter season. This makes it possible to plan activities according to route and time of year.

Circular route and trail to Hochwang Hut

The Hochwang biking route passes through Pagig, Triemel and Peist. It is 21.1 kilometers long and has 941 meters of elevation gain. When planning your day, take both the 21.1-kilometer distance and the 941 meters of elevation gain into account.

The summer trail from Fatschél via Triemel to Hochwang Hut has an estimated walking time of one and a half hours; conditions can affect the walking time. The hut is located in the middle of the Schanfigg High Trail hiking area, at an altitude of 1,958 meters above sea level. When choosing a tour, plan the summer trail to the hut according to its estimated walking time, and the biking route according to its distance and elevation gain.

Hochwang Archery Park

Hochwang Archery Park comprises two 3D archery parks: “Forest” and “Alpine.” Each park has 28 3D animal targets. An introductory course is compulsory for beginners. If you include the archery park in your plans, this course requirement should therefore be part of your trip preparations.

Local history and sound objects

Fatschél is a former alpine pasture settlement above the villages of Sankt Peter and Pagig. The name thus refers to an earlier form of alpine pasture use in the area and adds a historical connection to today’s tour planning.

On Scheidegg, rocking sound objects recall how the goats of Sankt Peter and Pagig once gathered there for the seasonal ascent to and descent from the alpine pastures. The artist and carpenter Fabio Spink designed and built the playful sound objects. Here, a visible installation meets the memory of an earlier agricultural tradition.

Getting here and seasonal connections

The Rhaetian Railway stops at St. Peter-Molinis on the route between Arosa and Chur. The postbus runs from Chur via Pagig and Sankt Peter to Peist and back. Before setting off, check the current timetable for the connection relevant to your trip.

During the winter season, a shuttle bus connects St. Peter-Molinis railway station and the surrounding villages with the Hochwang ski area. As this service is seasonal, check before departure whether the shuttle runs on your travel dates. This lets you take the connection into account when planning your winter stay.

Plan your accommodation to suit your stay

Plan your day around the different routes and seasonal connections rather than treating different excursions as interchangeable options.
