Pringy brings together trails through the Gruyère region with cheese and chocolate, a historic chapel and winter activities. When planning, the relevant conditions matter: the chocolate experiences vary in duration, the hiking trails in their route features, and ski joring requires snow cover.
Cheese and chocolate: two different time frames
The Maison du Gruyère is a show dairy where visitors can learn about the traditional production of Gruyère AOP. The interactive exhibition “Le Gruyère AOP, voyage au cœur des sens” explores the history of this internationally renowned cheese. Depending on the season, production takes place three to four times a day in front of visitors. If you plan to see the demonstration, check the visiting times. The Marché gruérien at the Maison du Gruyère showcases products from local cheesemakers, offering a different focus from the exhibition and production.
The Chocolaterie de Gruyères offers tailor-made chocolate workshops for small groups of 1 to 12 people at its laboratory in Pringy. A workshop lasts at least one hour; reservations are required. A shorter option is the 30-minute tour of the “bean-to-bar” production process, which includes a tasting. Reservations are also required for this option. This lets you choose between a short tour with a tasting and a workshop lasting at least one hour.
Hiking trails with different profiles
The “Sentier des fromageries” connects Pringy with Moléson-Village and can be hiked in either direction. There are two trails to choose from: one via Les Reybes and the other via La Provêta. The other cheese dairy can be reached after about two hours of hiking. The trail passes through the green pastures of the Gruyère region, past herds of cattle and authentic alpine chalets with wooden shingle roofs.
“De château en château” also passes through Pringy. This easy 7 km hike is classified as a family hike and is suitable for strollers. The hiking options therefore differ in their planning features: for the “Sentier des fromageries,” the focus is on the two route options and the approximate hiking time to the other cheese dairy; “De château en château” is defined by its length, easy rating and suitability for strollers.
The “Gruyères-Estavannens” stage descends from the centre of Gruyères towards Pringy. For cyclists, stage 7 of the “Route panorama alpin” is another specific route option: it runs between Fribourg and Montbovon and is 54 km long.
Winter activities and culture
When there is sufficient snow, a special 1 km ski-joring track is prepared in Pringy. Davos sledge rides are pulled by a horse and are offered in a leisurely or sporty version. Snow cover is explicitly required for ski joring; the sledge rides, meanwhile, offer two different options.
The Chapelle Sainte-Agathe de Pringy dates from 1811 and features an abstract stained-glass window by Alfred Manessier from 1990. The chapel thus brings religious tradition and contemporary abstraction together.
