Corbières offers access to Lake Gruyère and the Fribourg Pre-Alps. It also has a marked trail from the village centre up to Le Solitou, activities by the lake and buildings with several centuries of history. You can therefore choose different focuses when planning your trip: a break outdoors, a hike or a closer look at the historic village centre.
Lake Activities and a Break Outdoors
Below the church is La Montagnetta beach. There are picnic tables and barbecue areas; their availability may vary by season. This makes the spot an option for a break outdoors. Aventure Gruyère has a base in Corbières and offers rentals of canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and boats on Lake Gruyère. Treasure hunts and photo rallies are also available at the lake. Rentals and activities may change; check current availability if you plan to include any of them in your itinerary.
Hiking from the Village Centre and Along the Lake
The Corbières–Solitou hiking route leads from the village centre to the summit of Le Solitou and is marked with yellow directional signs. From there, you can follow the route north to the La Berra station; to the south, it leads via Vanil des Cours to Mont Bifé. This gives you two different options for continuing from the summit. Trail conditions may vary seasonally; check them before setting out.
A longer option is the Sentier du Lac de La Gruyère: the hike is 44 kilometres long and follows the lakeshore. From Rossens, the route runs via La Roche and Hauteville to Corbières. Along the way, farms typical of La Gruyère and Poyas shape the landscape. The full trail is officially open to the public, except for the section between Le Bry and Rossens. Check for seasonal closures before setting out.
There is also specific information about mountain bike descents towards Corbières. On the mountain bike tour towards La Berra, the descent is partly wet and difficult. Caution is advised on the descent towards Corbières on the Vanil des Cours tour. As terrain and trail conditions may vary, it is advisable to check for current conditions before your ride.
Historic Buildings and Village Centre
Château de Corbières was built at its current location in the early 14th century and renovated in 1560. It is still in very good condition and is one of the cultural heritage sites protected by the canton. The historic centre of Corbières is listed among the nationally significant sites worthy of preservation.
The different periods of construction are also visible at the parish church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité: the choir and nave date from the 13th or 14th century, while the bell tower porch dates from 1789. The present concrete Pont de Corbières bridge was built in 1931. A more recent addition is the wooden sculpture La Géante La Catillon, created in Corbières in summer 2024. Check its condition when you visit.
Getting There and Event Dates
In the centre, there is a free car park at Chemin du Pré-du-Crêt 7, 1647 Corbières, with carpool parking spaces and two electric car charging stations. The charging facilities may change; check them before your trip. Corbières is also served by buses operated by Fribourg Public Transport (TPF). Check routes and timetables before travelling.
The Jeunesse de Corbières usually holds Corbifest every year in early April as a two-day festival in the multipurpose hall. If the festival is important to your trip, check the exact event dates.
