Lake Gruyère and hiking trails that pass through Morlon are practical starting points for planning your trip. When making your plans, you can choose according to your interests: hiking, water activities or culture in the village.

Hiking trails between the lakeshore and the hills

The Sentier du Lac de La Gruyère is 44 kilometres long and runs along the lake. It can be divided into several circular sections and passes partly along the shore and partly through hilly terrain. The trail is easily accessible by public transport at the regional level. Dividing it into circular sections offers a way to plan individual stages rather than the entire hiking trail.

An easy, 8.5-kilometre hike leads from Broc via Morlon to Bulle. The lakeside hike starts in Broc-Chocolaterie and follows the Sentier du Lac de La Gruyère via Morlon to Bulle. This offers two different scales: the specific hike, with its stated length and difficulty, and the longer lakeside trail, which can be divided into circular sections. Another named route, the Circuit autour du Gibloux, follows Route 4 via Morlon between Bulle and Echarlens.

Water activities and time at Pointe à Morlon

Visitors can rent stand-up paddleboards, canoes and sailboats around Lake Gruyère. Pointe à Morlon is a starting point for lakeside walks and cycling tours. There is also a beach volleyball court at the public beach cove of La Pointe à Morlon. The shallow swimming area there is suitable for children; seasonal conditions may vary.

For a break at the Pointe, there are picnic tables and freely accessible barbecue areas. As these facilities may change seasonally, check the current situation before your visit. There is a refreshment stand near Morlon Beach. This makes it easy to choose between the different options along the shore: walking or cycling routes, time at the beach cove, or a picnic.

Festivals and religious heritage

On the Morlon peninsula, the Holiday at Morlon Beach association organises activities and concerts every two years, from the end of July to the beginning of August. Check the specific dates for the season of your trip. Saint Grat is also celebrated in Morlon on 7 September; if this event is important to your plans, confirm the date for the relevant year.

The parish church of Saint-Grat is part of Morlon’s cultural heritage. Morlon church has three Baroque altarpieces by Pierre Ardieu and also attracts people from outside the parish each year for baptisms and weddings. A chapel dedicated to Saint Grat was consecrated in Morlon in 1500. These historical and religious connections are distinct from the lakeside activities and offer visitors interested in culture a focus of their own during their stay in the village.
